TJ: stock thermostat for I5 is 87c and you will also see
This thermostat on V6.87c is also common used on
merc and bimmer.the 71c thermostat is useless IMHO.
My country is 35-45c all year round.my car never overheated.
It's steady around 87-90c besides the f^*k aircon which
Not blowing cold air when car is not moving under the hot day.also my car is not wrong.
Since all I5 cars does the same ****** things.
one of a few I5 from Asia.

I wonder where you're sourcing this experienced infos.....

The motor has been set by the people who developed to run in a fixed temperature range
the thermostat it's used to determine the point when the radiators are requested to work and start to try to KEEP as better as possible that fixed temperature despite the outside temperature speed of the car rpms of the motor and so on.
Hence thermostat closes and opens to keep the system on the selected temp because it could be that the motor could become too cold which as you've been told it's not good.

In hot countries they will have put (they did not) bigger radiators NOT a cooler thermostat.

I reckon You better go back into basics such as......

How a petrol motor and the cooling system works.

Thermostat for I5T20V it's part number 069121113 period

It's the same part number in Nigeria Sicily Greece Canada Siberia Sahara.... Everywhere.

The point it's that you don't get it...
You seems not getting what the thermostat it's meant to do or generally why it's there
You don't have a clue of the basics.... how modern motor functions on regards of cooling system and/or why someone (the guy who make them!) intend to have a certain fixed temperature range on a motor.

This makes pointless to talk to you.

Quite hilarious that you were the first to talk about "brain"....

To answer the OP's original question the Gates item is OE quality, I always use them when replacing the cam-belt on VAG cars.

I also can't see the point of fitting a cooler thermostat, I actually use the same 88 C unit in both my cars as I do a lot of short journeys and find it helps the them get up to operating temp slightly quicker. They both still run a notch or two below 90c once up to full temperature, the only time they ever get above 90 so that the fan activates is in prolonged slow moving traffic. My RS2 has the Aux rad fitted, my S2 doesn't, having a signal more efficient custom alloy radiator.

So? 100 C is not an issue. 110C maybe.
