Dear all, Thanks for the comments. I used some Holts rubber and nylon lubricant on the pipe and hole. it worked a treat. Fingers crossed that the early pipe doesn't fail...
The main problems with the audi is that even though it's low mileage it is suffering from component failure. The headlamp brackets plastic cracks and falls off. The rubber window trims at the front and rear of the door have disintegrated.
After 5 hours trying to convert an early failure prone door lock into a later casting I managed to have a very brief drive. the car is transformed. she moves away with a light touch of throttle instead of having to boot it.
tickover is rock steady at 800rpm.
I'm probably now going to spoil it by fitting the 7a injector conversion...
Rolling road booked at Mikeanics in Congleton on Tuesday morning. fingers crossed.Leave a comment:

PITA to get that breather hose in. Those intake pipes are very hard to find, especially the early ones.
Glad you got it sorted David

Hey there
Keep an eye on that rubber elbow as they are prone to splitting where that metal pipe attaches. The fact they are so difficult to fit doesn't help

Thanks Newsh,
Fingers crossed. It was a long time ago. My son was 3 months old. He's just started high school.
I will be posting pictures of the rally shortly. been really missing the forum. just life takes over.
I think you'd just fitted an RS2 Farb and a Whiteline rear ARB at the garage meet.
The garage meets were great events.
very good of Greg's dad to host them I realise why they stopped.
Work will resume tomorrow!

Good news David! All good things come to those who wait!
I remember talking about your car at Greg's Garage Meet, a good few years agoo now when my car was still on the stock turbo

I think it may be fixed...
Dear all, thanks for the comments and suggestions,
I knew there wasn't an air leak. The earth is flat and the moon is made from green cheese...
There is a large pipe fitted in the underside of the MAF sensor to throttle body. this pipe was not in place at all. bit like having a 12mm hole in your induction. The pipe was fitted in with great effort and the car now ticks over for the first time in 22 years.
I have bought some red bosch injectors and adapters from Germany to replace the Hitachi injectors.
once I have got the car back on the road after a failed door lock I will do the modification.
Thanks once again for the comments.
P.S. sorry for the slow response. Greg_s has managed to het me back on line. Thanks Greg!

Make sure the TPS throttle position sensor is working as it should.
Also check the ignition timing. The plastic gear on the bottom of the distributor is a weak point. Can be replaced with a brass one that works well.Leave a comment:
