S2 alternator and crank pully options

So I'm building a stroker and am at the point I need to send my rotating parts to jp to get balanced. I only need my crank to drive an alternator as I'm using electric power steering. So I'm wondering what the best option is. I think aby cars run a rib belt and 3b cars v belts like a 7a. I have access to a 7a pully, and an aan ribbed pully. What's the best most compact setup to go with? I should have an aby setup someplace too but can't find it at the moment. Could people link me to some pictures of engines with various alternator setups please. Cheers des

I don't have any pics, but I do have an opinion...based on my own experience the 3B v belt arrangement will limit your choice of alternators to the smaller amp ranges. A v belt struggles to turn a higher amp alternator when it is under load. The electric power steering pump is (probably) rated up to 80A so a higher amp alternator is a good idea...

Basically, what I'm saying is, if you have the opportunity to fit the ribbed pulley it would give a better end result...

Use the AAN pulleys and 6pk belt. It's the lightest most compact crank pulley arrangement and best belt in terms of transmitting torque. As Chris quite rightly says you will want a strong alternator, I'd say minimum 120A, I'd run a 150A I think with the E-pump

Use the aan or s2 pully as I was using the v belt and when the boost comes in hard it slings the belt off

Ok thanks for the advice guys. Looks like I want an aan pully then. I can temporarily pinch one from my spare engine but will look for one one here. So what brackets are being used to work with an aan pully and alternator. Full aan setup or? The electric power steering is fused at 50 a in a corsa but I know of a few on a 30 amp fuse nit blowing so thinking a 120 a alternator should be loads.

I also use a AAN pulley. My alternator is a valeo 746025 which is 120A if im right. It also has a 6 rip free-wheel pulley which takes of a lot of stress from the belt.

If you go with an AAN style and run a serp. belt, might be a good time for a FluidAmpr.

Nice picture. Did you make the bracket yourself to mount the alternator or what's it from?

Has anyone actually ran a fluidamper on a il5?

The bracket is the original ABY aircon and submount support bracket. Just modified it a bit.

I like the idea of the alternator over on that side of the engine to give more space for the radiator.

These guys don't rate fluid dampers. But they are competing...

ATI harmonic Super Dampers add horsepower and torque to race, street and truck engines.

Kinda expensive ! 1400 usd and only works with a dry sump setup.

Jeff Gerner was the driving force behind the ATI damper on the i5.

Between 034 and Issam @ INA there's probably some good intel regarding the FluidAmpr available.

I am still on the 3B V belt alternator mounted exhaust side running a EPS and using this alternator with a Brise pulley
