    UrS6 - Cooling Failure & Forum Failure

    The Audi Enthusiast website. Forums for all Audis including A4, S4, A5, S5, A6, S6, allroad, A8, S8, TT, R8, Q5, Q7, 4000, 100, 200, v6, v8, vintage, local forums

    Interesting thread for two reasons.

First reason is about the failed part (C4 owners take note) and the attitude to the part failure on a Audi / VW forum, and say Porsche forum. I think the reason may be that they have bigger budget and may not always do the work themselves.

Second is about the attitude of some people on their forum. Glad our one isn't the same as some part of this linked forum.

Comic posts fine, nasty ones not so.

None of us are perfect. I'm reminded of this everyday.

    Live and let live.

    Regards to all.

p.s. Check Dave's "What Will Strand You" list, if you are not confident you already have everything pulled up to the line.

Let me start by saying that that thread is embarrassing but, unfortunately, not unique. There are certain individuals that like to attack me there for the slightest real or, more likely, imagined reason. In this case they thought I slamming the OP (Reinheitgebot -aka Gary A.) for his failure. I know Gary (he emails me directly often for help, advice, PNs, comments) so I was just flagging for other people that he had missed the opportunity to change that coolant "T" when he had his engine apart (head was off - for months).

Then the usual cast of characters start attacking me.

I had a restless sleep over this one.

Gary A. emailed me and told me that he was perfectly fine with my comment and had not taken it negatively. Which is what I thought he would do.

And you wonder why I did over 1000 posts here since March? It's nice and calm over here and the discussions are civilized.

PS: The coolant "T" is no. 3 in the list of things that will fail on your AAN and strand you at the side of the road.

Don't worry Dave, your help and guidance on here is immense and fully appreciated! Sometimes it can come across as harsh, but to those of us that understand, we know it's not meant to be personal it's just you showing your frustration wishing people would listen and learn. Nothing unusual there then for a teacher then eh Prof? All teachers want to bring out the best in their protege! And some people do very well because of their teachers! Fair doo's!! And anyone who has a problem with that probably didn't do well at school themselves.

Anyway, .. .. as you were Dave!

I had a read of that thread too. I'd simply ignore ignoramus comments like that Dave. Some folk are never happy!

FYI RHD cars do not have this 'tee' section, instead the HVAC coolant temp sensor is part of the vacuum servo assembly on the passenger side of the plenum. So this particular failure mode is LHD car centric. RHD cars also have no pollen filter in case anyone's interested....

Agree. The right hand drive (RHD) versions of the UrS4/S6 had some clearance issues behind the head so Audi eliminated the separate "T" with the climate control coolant temp sender and incorporated the temp sender into the 893819809 (rhd) heater valve listed above and shown here in its new, raw form, and then below that, in situ, in a RHD UrS.

Always thought it odd that we had no pollen filter for RHD cars especially as these were top of the range cars costing the price of the average house in the uk back then. Why was that, apart from the obvious, and would it not be possible to do something about it?, because i hate smelling others peoples car fumes!

                Hi Dave,

Embarrass them back and post a link to this thread on Quattroworld.

                Bring it on.

I'm interested, as I was wondering why I couldn't find the T piece on my rhd UrS6.

Also I didn't realise I didn't have a pollen filter on my car either. Would have been nice to have tbh as VDT said.

The obvious is not always the obvious to everyone on here. Thanks again Crispy.

I wasn't and am not embarassed by what I said in that thread. I am embarassed that you guys get to see some of the antics that go on at my "home" forum. (BTW, it's almost always the same group of 4 - only one of which still has an UrS car so you have to wonder why the other 3 drop by - except to harass me when it suits them (and they see the opportunity - which I normally don't give them)).

Please don't consider linking this S2Forum thread back to quattorworld. That will just make things even worse.

As for heaven, I doubt it.

Interesting, didn't know that. I suppose I can fit it in my LHD UrS4, elongating the sender wires?

Sorry Dave, if I wasn't not clear in my post, I wasn't meaning that your were embarrassed by anything you posted, but I read it as / meant that you were embarrassed by the antics of the other people on Quattroworld.

Anyway, we should concentrate on the cooling failure covered in the thread rather than the antics of people just wishing to be / trying to be clever / smart / cool.

Reading the Quattroworld thread from here, I'm sure most will see them for what they are, i.e. anything but..........

Actually that is a great idea. Don't see why it wouldn't work. In addition to extending the wires, you would have to create a coupling to replace the coolant sensor "Tee" and perhaps shorten the heater hose that goes to the vacuum-controlled heater control valve.

Here is a photo of what your LHD UrS should have, including the bleeder valve.
