  • AAN air filter

    Hey guys!

I got into a discussion with one guy and we argued about air filter which comes standard on the AAN. We were discussing Mahle/Knecht filters in this case.

So the AAN part number for the air filter is - 191129620.

Checking the number in multiple stores it gives me Mahle/Knecht LX296, which I have installed in my UrS4. The guy on the other hand says that it is a mistake and the real filter for AAN is Mahle/Knecht LX339. The 339 is more than a centimeter taller than 296.

What's the catch here? LX339 is also listed for the AAN, but the part number gives me LX296.

Correct on the 191129620. I think they are NLA from Audi.

    OE NLA filter:

Here is the Mann equivalent, compare it to the height of the Mahle/Knechts:

    Mahle LX296

All the references that I found for the LX339 were for the 2.5L TDI in the C4 chassis. So it will likely fit but it might provide TOO MUCH inlet pressure loss, i.e. negative boost. Personally, in the absense of OE, I would go with the Mann based on this (and forget K&N): http://12v.org/audi/afcompare/

Went out to check to see what was inside my Mann C31152/1 box and discovered a used Hengst E152L.

A search on that turns up some interesting info including the Height at 57 mm, compared to the diesel Mahle LX339 at 70.3 mm or something.

http://www.hengst-katalog.de/en/filt...10000/03/E152L full listing of Audi applications including S2, RS2 and UrS4 (and presumably UrS6).

Check out this Mahle listing at Arizona Autohauz. Definitely mentions LX296. I am quite convinced that the LX339 is the 2.5 TDI air filter.

            Thanks Dave!

For some reason I can get the OE air filter. It shows up in one of the shops. Costs 14 EUR and takes a week to deliver. Could be a substitute though, when opening the package and seeing Mahle for example.

Please. If you click on the "Detail" regarding the air filter in your link you get this:

                http://catalog.mahle-aftermarket.com...&filterId=1029

which specifically lists the LX 339 as being 70.3 mm deep. Normal OE AAN filters are 57 mm deep. My guess is Mahle only wants to list one filter for the C4 and since the LX 339 will work for all applications, including the 2.5L TDI, that is the one they chose.

                But that is a guess.

And Audi are misleading us by giving incorrect part number for air filter element on purpose, yeah right. All of the catalogues are giving out the LX296, and I'm staying with it.

The part number for 2.5 diesel AEL - 4A0129620. That one gives the LX339. AAN - 191129620. Completely different numbers and different filters.
