engine mounts, left and right hand different?

    hi all,
Cq20v - my engine mounts are 13 years old now and probably due a change. First set on the car were done at 12 years and it was noticeable the difference in engine movement control they gave.

I've been trawling through my old invoices and found the factory part number:
443 199 382 which is listed for vehicles with air con

A bit more research confused the issue though as some brands differentiated between left and right and then there was mention of 'green' type mounts (suspect green = ....382)

I'm thinking the only way air con can affect the mountings is the amount of weight they have to deal with? I took my air con off as I'm sure it was aftermarket and it had failed, does this mean i am now in the market for either type mount? (443 199 381C now for no air con)

I can't believe for one moment on the 7A block there is any difference left to right and my parts list from the previous change does give the same part numbers twice. Just hoping for confirmation or insight from anyone who has recently done the job and knows off the top of their head!

    cheers

      Thanks for the info!

The plot thickens a little bit though as my car had a pair of 443 199 382 fitted many moons ago.

I think i may have to remove them and have a look before ordering.

One side has captive bolts, the other side has holes. Early cars have the mounting holes and thread all in a line; later cars have the mounting thread offset approx. 10mm from the hole centreline. HTH

ahhh, that is interesting. That would explain why all the pics look the same - the difference of fixing alignment being 10mm off is very small and doesn't show up in the pics!

My car came with a cast iron manifold and bosch ISV so indicates the 'later' models.

Searching of the interweb for 379E and 381C has turned up some N.O.S genuine mounts overseas. The mounts are £15-25 but the postage is not far off being the same!

          cheers all

Febi do them new, there was a thread on here of someone selling them. I have also done a thread on engine mounts for an ABY, so there are a few options on there, I think.

Audi Tradition do them NOS but they're a lot more than £20!

I will be buying a set of the AnLe mounts, as part of the batch he is making. There's a thread on the group buy section.

How do these different mounts change the position of the engine? I have a 7a Coupe & will be installing an UrS4, AAN engine, into the Coupe. I know to use the mount arms from the 7a engine but do I need the ABY/ADU mounts?
              TIA, Chris

I believe the chassis leg bracket is different on the ABY/ADU. No idea why

IF there is some confusion on the PNs, I hope this link helps sort it:

well, got a fresh pair of engine mounts on today - nice straightforward job to do. The only snag was that one of the captive studs was loose but happily they do have a (although very shallow) hex head on the end to allow a spanner on to stop it spinning. God send as otherwise there was no way i could see other than an angle grinder to get it off. I would also say that it was made a WHOLE lot easier not having the brake bomb in the way on the nearside.

With the old mounts off, it is obvious which one has the harder life...

This is the offside mount. It has slumped about 10-12mm and has got marks in the rubber which i think were caused by having the top washer being pressed into it. Actually not that slack feeling but by hand i doubt i'd be stronger enough to worry it.
My guess is that the offside mount deals with torque reaction of the engine under load...

anyway, that is the last job till spring so now roll on the snow!

that's the one that sits directly under the exhaust manifold. The main reason for the deterioration

there should also be a cover for that mount
