    Audi 7A and 3B distributors

    Hello

I have to buy a new distributor for my Audi 20V 7A engine
The code is 0237522013 and i read that 7A, 3B and early AAN distributor are similar.

I found on the internet a 3B distributor, but code is 0237522019, and looks vey similar to 0237522013

    It is ok for me?

    Thank you in advance.
    Mihai

codes for 3b and 7a are different but they do indeed work as replacements. Not sure what is so different, maybe the size of rotor?
AAN engines only had the "tuna can" hall sensor, they did not have a distributor.

More likely less overall advance given the 3B has a turbo bolted to it...

The 7A, 3B and early (pre-Feb 92) AANs all have a "distributor" of some form. All of these distributors are attached to the intake side of the head, near the back, and are driven off a gear attached to the end of the intake camshaft. As far as I can tell, these three gears are all different. For sure the AAN gear is different than the 3B gear.

Here is a 7A head (note the bag of snakes exhaust manifold). Note the drive gear on the intake manifold and the distributor just at the lower right corner of the photo:

Here is a photo showing the 3B intake (left) and the early AAN intake (right)

The only difference i've seen between the 7a and 3b distributors are the Rotors.

So the drive gears are indeed the same?

indeed. narrow is for the 3B. If go with the wide, you go wild like joe marconi did.

You can get 3Bs with different dizzy/cam gears from normal 3B/7A. Not common, maybe from 10v or AAN tuna can parts bin special?

                        My 3B left, 7A right.

i personally did use my 3B (1991 audi 200) distributor on my 7A (1991 cq). So i dont see how the one on your picture would fit.

The NM and 7A distributor was PN 034905237 X

The explanation for the 3B/7A conflict could be the fact that there was a VIN-based PN break point for the 3B distributor: 034905237BX to 8B NA005500 and then 034905205AA from 8B NA005501.
