    ABY crankshaft strength

Any clever heads with a guess on how much the standard ABY crankshaft can withstand in NM and HP?

    Best regards

I don't know if you can get any stronger second hand crank for these engines than the OE crank. It's easily good for +1000hp/+1000Nm. I think something like 1300-1400hp have been taken with it without issues.

These cranks are unbelievably tough. Haven't heard cases of a broken crank. Has anyone been over 1400hp on these engines?

One thing that can break the crank nose off is a solid alu lightweight front "damper" pulley I've seen someone using. Not good to run without a proper dampper.

So as long you run the original damper, you wont reckon problems?

I found this in my 3b when I got it.
It was meant to be noisy rod bearings. Things were looking slightly different when I stripped the engine.

Your Pictures look like sombody dropped the crankshaft.
                    This is no engine fault.

Correct, was no engine fault. And there is no scam or something as I got it as gift. It is from private person who had his own one car dismantled and engine was laying in the corner for years, and he doesn't know from where and when that 'scratch' has appeared. I've checked all main and rod bearings and they look very good as the crankshaft as well except that part ...
Now scratching my head if its worth to send this crankshaft for balancing because can be that I will spend (lose) money for shipping and will be found that it is not straight and not good for use....

if crankshaft is straight this damage is nothing.
will check if it is straight just because of principle and intrigue
