    Camshaft studs

    Hey folks.

Should the camshaft studs be changed to new ones during a head rebuild? I heard from some sources that they tend to stretch. But since it's an aluminium head, I'm afraid that some might come out with the thread, so it's a risky thing.

    Item nr.3

    Appreciate the advice.

The torque on the cam cap nuts is only 15 Nm (11 lbft) so I doubt that there is very much stretching going on. Probably moot since neither the caps or the studs seem to be a replaceable part.

They are low torque, I dont think the steel stud will stretch. If they are fine I would just leave them alone.

I have removed them by double nutting them to replace damaged ones and install ones from a spare head.

Iff you torque them at more then 15nm they will stretch. Even at 20nm they strech. Don't asq how I know
Be sure you don't over torque them.
        Goodluck!

I've never replaced them. They would have to be well over tightened to permenantly deform or break. 15NM isn't a lot of torque for an M6 thread.

Thing is that I don't know if they are not stretched already, because I know the head was off before at least once.

put 15nm on them. check the cams spin ok. put a tad extra on if you want maybe 17nm.

i use a small 3/8" torque wrench for these.
