Is there a guide for installing chips into an ABY ECU?

I was just wondering if there is a guide for installing home fried chips to an ABY ECU? Ive had a quick search, but couldn't seem to find anything.

    Many thanks .

Orientation of AAN and probably ABY chips (NOT 3B)

I just finished writing this up for somebody. It relates to an AAN and probably a ABY but NOT to a 3B.

"You have been provided two chips for your ECU upgrade. They are labeled "LDR" and "MOT". The "LDR" is short for turbolader, i.e. German for turbocharger and is the boost chip. The "MOT" represents the "Motor" chip and is the fueling and timing chip. You will notice that there is addition labeling on these chips. The "MOT" chip is also labeled "S701". The "LDR" chip is also labeled "S251". If you look on your ECU's printed circuit boards you will see that these same labels are embedded in the printed circuit board (PCB). The intent is the "S701" or "MOT" chip is installed in the socket with the "S701" in the PCB (top board) and the "S251" or "LDR" chip is installed in the socket with the "S251" in the circuit board (bottom board with the Bosch MAP sensor (or VMAP)). The "S701" and "S251" labels in the PCB are beside Pin 1 of each socket.

You will notice that both chips have a notch in them at one end. Often this would mean that you would simply match the notch in the chip with the notch in the socket. However, in the absence of notches in the sockets or in case the sockets were incorrectly installed, the correct orientation of the chips is with the notch in the chip at the end of the socket that has the appropriate "S701" or "S251" in the PCB.

In short, the MOT/S701 chip goes on the top board with the notch end beside the "S701" on the PCB and the LDR/S251 chip goes on the bottom board with the notch end beside the "S251" on the PCB.

Be very careful to match the pins up to the holes precisely before pressing the chip into the socket so as not to bend or break any of the pins."

This is of course only if you're Lucky enough to have the original chips placed in sockets. In some of our Ecu's the chips are soldered directly unto the board.
In that case you'll have to de-solder the old chips, which is doable, but only with a good soldering iron and tin sucker. (And in this case I highly recommend soldering a socket in place instead of the new chip. Also beware that the old chips are soldered on both sides of the print and that the new one will have to be as well of course. It took me about 8 hours total last time.)
