    AAN oversized pistons?

I'm preparing the parts list as my plan is going to rebuild the AAN with fresh parts.
It's also the good time to give some stronger pars to support the bigger HP in
the near future.I have a couple AAN blocks laying for years but they all have a
surface rust and minor pitts on the walls which defo needs oversized pistons.I
checked the JE and wossner.they seems to have a variations of size available from
stock 80.98 to 83mm.What's the consensus and how to choose the correct size of the
pistons?this's going to be my first time rebuilding the 5 pots motor.i don't want to pay
double times on getting wrong/incorrect parts for a rebuild since my budget is something i need to think about.

83.5 are also available at JE. Bigger pistons bigger dislpacement. Most important is the CR.

To keep costs down I would keep within the diameter of the standard head gasket which is 82mm, going bigger than this leaves a piston to gasket clearance problem.

Go with 81.5 or 82mm Wossner, probably 82mm is best if the bores are pitted.
Don't use JEs on a street car the clearances are too large and it will burn a **** ton of oil.

Other option is sleeve the block and reuse stock Pistons

I vote for wossner or fcps own pistons which look v similar to wossner to me as I have used both. 82mm is fine. Cr will be between 8 and 8.5:1 depending on clearance you run between crown and head. I skim the block to give no more than 1 mm so piston sits out of bore about 0.5mm.

Advantages over other brands are they run tighter clearances and so don't burn much oil or make noise when cold as has already been said.

Fcp will do you a good deal on both especially if you buy rods. And while your this far get rods. Then you have a bullet proof bottom end.

Anyone uses Wiseco pistons?I believe they make for I5.
i just bought the bore gauge and still waiting delivered.
I will check my 3 aan blocks and pick the best one for a rebuild.
Does the pistons manufacturer provides the bore spec with the
Pistons when purchased? I believe the stock size allow +0.003mm
Of cylinder bore bigger than pistons.

The piston mafacture gives advice as to what size to make the bore based on use. If you order a 82mm wossner piston then the bore will be 82mm and they make the piston smaller to suit. Clearance is 0.07mm with them from memory. Some of this piston coatings mean you can't measure them accurately yourself.

Also if your reboaring a block you can pick a bad block to redo. 1mm reboar should fix almost any previous problem.

I just purchased JE pistons for my AAN. Am I asking for trouble with them?
Anybody here have firsthand experience with them? I plan on doing oil changes
every 2-3k miles. It will be driven on the street and track.
