Sorry to hear/see the above Andy. At least no bore damage which is a small consolation.

So took a brave pill and got the head off today...

10 bent valves and some massaged pistons but nothing too serious. Head will be heading to JP for inspection and repair and I'll have 10 new ornaments to wow and amaze guests with.

The impact also sheared the cam pulley key, so a replacement pulley & new cambelt will be going on and I'll check the billet lower pulley at the same time.

Not what I had planned this month but there we go...

This was a Conti belt from GSF. There had been a chirp on startup a few times of late but with the car sitting outside and the weather being wet and cold, this wasn't a surprise. The belt was tight.

Looks like the guide that stops the PAS belt wobbling about guided the broken belt to its final destination...

The only problem with Gates belts is you have no idea when they were actually manufactured. The Continentals at least have that info printed on the belt...

With respect to the Cam timing belt:

OE (if available - rumoured to be NLA but might be with Audi Tradition):

AAN and ABY = 054109119H 151 tooth timing belt. (151 Z in Katespeak)
    NM,7A and 3B = 054109119G "toothed belt" 147 teeth (not 151 for the 3B)
    RS2 = 034109119C = 150 teeth according to the photo (not 148 as I once thought)

That is really bad luck, very galling after just getting it back together after all the work.

I would be wary of running it, if it has a bent valve and you break the head off the valve you can easily damage the head, piston, block and turbo.

My mates car dropped a valve head, punched a hole in the top of the piston, mashed the head/valves, scored the bore and blew fragments out the exhaust.

You could do a compression test as that is less force, but for the cost of a head gasket I would probably just pull the head.

No undertray, haven't run one since it flew off at 120 in 2007

Belt was less than a year old.

For the belt to snap the timing cover and end up in the cambelt is something you just can't account for.

Will check compression but expecting it to be head off. At least all the bolts won't be seized as it was only built 4 months ago.
