    Block to head guide-pins.

First: Do i really need them?
Second: What is the best course of action here before i leave this block at the machine-shop doing a hone and top-deck job.
If i don't need the pins, i could just hack this lose part away and leave it as is. Other option is welding i guess?

Damage caused by aggressor (me ) while trying to get that d*mned pin out.. See picture:

    Thanks.

I would say you do need them so get the damage welded by someone who knows how to weld a casting

I would use them... Just to be sure the head gasket and head are straight.
Just put'it in there ... No need to repair the block.

I'd probably recommend cleaning the crack up with a small grinder (dremmel) so you're sure it won't spread first. Or if you're after a little more security,You could remove the loose bit, grind it out, then build the area back up with JB Weld before re-drilling the hole and setting the pin again (not too tight a hole though, strong as JB Weld is, it's not going to be as strong as cast).

Or use head studs to locate the gasket and then these pins are redundant.

I really dont see the problem, just grind the crack slightly then a few spots With the mig= fixed. Its so easy so why even bother to cheat

Use a 3/4 jaw lathe chuck to grab them tight, rotate and pull. This method will never result in block cracking.
That crack looks to be not at half.So getting the broken pice out and smooth grinding the area to avoid further cracks will result in the fact the pin will still stay there and allign the gasket and the head.Do not use any kind of weld on cast iron if not 100% necesary or if it is not done with cast welding methods.
You could use some threads lock paste to be 100% sure that pin will not get out and vibrate there during the entire life of that working engine.
