    Hot start problem

    Hi all,

Well, I've had a couple of trouble free S2 months so i suppose i should have been expecting something...

Went off to B&Q on Saturday on a DIY mission, the jouneys about 3 miles and the car ran fine.

Came out of B&Q and tryed to start her and she started but wouldn't idle or rev, then she would then die. She did this about 5 times and then she wouldn't start at all (just turning over).

Checked the following on the day:

Loosened off the fuel rail bolt and fuel was under pressure. Pretty sure i could here the injectors ticking when turning over.

    Checked for spark.... spark present.

Swapped over idle control valve to no avail.

    Checked wiring and connectors.

    Tryed swearing at her... nothing.

In the end I had to tow the car home.

Next morning I tryed starting her and she started 1st time and idled fine!

I'll try and recreate the fault tomorrow by taking her round the block a few times, then parking up and trying to start her.... I'll also try to pull the fault codes.

In the meantime, does anyone have any ideas?

    Cheers

    Gareth

P.S. Does anyone know where I can find a list of fault codes as the link on s2 central is dead.... thanks.

The Hall Sender is a likely culprit for this. You can try pouring water down the back of the cam belt cover (?) as this sometimes cures it, albeit temporarily.

BTDT.I had exactly the same problem when i had my RS2. It was actually a knackered fuel pump that was the cause of the problem on mine. Shame i changed the HAll sender first

Its a 3b isnt it? so hall sender is in the dizzy.
When it happens again try starting with the maf un-plugged.

I had very bad experience with defective hall sender and warm start up! Changed it and everything was ok!!!
            Go Holset or Go RS4

Faulty MAF won't prevent the car from starting.
