AAN inlet manifold problems at high BHP???

Ok, I am putting an ABY into my URQ in the near future. Now I have managed to get a intercooler set up that seems good but I would really need to have a front inlet manifold to make it work. I CANT afford the fancy custom made inlets we see here so am thinking of a factory AAN inlet. But I have heard that there can be problems running the AAN inlet at high BHP, as a cylinder may run lean/rich. Has this been actually proven? I would like 400-500bhp max. Are there any other implications of fitting an aan inlet to a aby? Do water manifolds need changed or what? Do any brackets need changed? Engine is on the stand so its easy to work on. I know I would need to move the radiator back a little. That’s no a problem. Anyone have a AAN manifold for sale. What is their worth? Thanks, des.

Well dialynx use one on their demo car, that has lots of hp.
I've heard people say it can run lean on no1 cylinder but ive never seen any proof of this.

Well seen as your's is a UR there is a bit more room under the bonnet than the S2 so moving the rad a bit isnt a problem. Its the power steering pump which causes the grief, but if your keeping the manifold like the pic above you shouldnt have to move it that much.
Doug and mark should be able to help a bit more because they have finished theirs, and i haven't yet

If I did it again - I would keep the AAN IM standard (maybe remove the access holes for the bolts) and mess around getting the radiator to fit or a custom radiator. MOving the throttle body to the front was a LLOT of work. You have to modify the water manifold - maybe an AAN would be better.

Thanks for the info Martin and Doug. I Reckoned that their wasent much or a problem with mixture with the AAN but had people say there was. Maybe another Myth, or it just shows up if you are really at the edge or things. Doug, what did you have to do to the water manifold to make it work? Aprox what would someone pay for a AAN inlet and where would you find one? Could you use the pump bracket from the S6 without mods on the S2 or URQ? Thanks, des.

Thanks for the picture Jamo. My intercooler loction is in front of the radiator, so the AAN inlet looks ideal. I would add a small thin fan infornt of the intercooler to keep a constant flow through it and the rad.

The main hose connection(35mm IIRC) into the water manifold is angled upwards. This need chopped off and welded so it is horizontal.

I didn't pay anything for the IM. The more people are wanting to use this though, the more people will try and make money from them. I would check how much they are new first.

Does the aby throttle bolt on to the aan manifold. Are in injectors and fuel rail the same. isv? Just trying to compile a list of must haves. Anything else to get? thanks.

Yes it will bolt, yes, they are the same (throttle and co).
Water manifold is not the same, also as far I understand breather hose with valve is not the same. But it seems that it is possible to connect breather to ABY.

BTW I managed to make some strange looking, and not effective water hose system . Just another stupid design by me, which works... I mean with AAN water manifold, but it needed additional bleeder screw mounting to get rid of the air in the highest point. However using this system you can use urs6 hydraulic pump on custom bracket, but have no idea where in S2 sits the "bomb". It may be a problem to fit it, because at least in urq/typ85 you need mount radiator at the angle. This is not prolonging life of the poor thing, so it is not recommended for harsh suspension and big mileage.

It's a pity my website is down, and I cannot access closeup pixs.

Bomb is located behind the LH side engine mount near the drive shaft.

So it may be a problem when "angling" radiator.

BTW there are some manifolds currently on the ebay.de. You can watch these auctions just to make sense which price do they go, or if you are an ebayer, you can try your luck there:

Des, the fuel rail is different on the AAN, the ABY rail can be used but the fixing points are different so would need someething welding onto the manifold to bolt to.

Ok, so to summarise, you need the manifold, water manifold, injection rail. But not the throttle etc, that can be taken from my aby. Then i may be able to use a aan pump and bracket, yes? thanks, des.
