    7a - 20vt engine block exchangeable?

    hi guys
i wonder if you can use a 7a engine block with crank to replace a 20vt engine block?
has a 7a also oil spray jets? te same bore size?
i want to buy a 7a engine just for spare parts because they are cheaper and not difficult to find but i want to be sure.......
i know that a 7a head need to be machined for the water manifold but i dont mind.

Bore is 82,5mm. No holes for timing belt tensioner. Other wise they are quite the same.

Yes crank is the same, and oil squirters are there. Sure you can do the holes, but I'm not sure how thick the wall is, if it pierce to the water space..? (I will put studs on my diesel block for the tensioner, sealing them with some hydraulic sealant/glue)

You will pierce the water jacket. Had this on the old 3B which dudes tried to make into an AAN by drilling holes for the tensioner. Surprise, surprise - coolant starts to flow vividly when you take off the tensioner.

Thats why you wan't to use studs and nuts.

I have a really old rusty 5 cyl block here maybe 7a but can't see any part numbers on it?
Where can these/are they supposed to be to identify the block or is it just a case of looking at the block features?

I'm almost in the same situation. I have 2 x 7a engines (without the cams ) and am acquiring bits and parts for a build.

                      1) Can I, and should I use the same head/block 7a combination add my goodies and swap it ? (i.e. are pistons, rods and crank all capable/same as 3b ?)
                      2) Just use the head, add the goodies, and bolt it on the 3b block ?
-Assuming I have the head machined for the water manifold before and that I have a 3b base (dizzy and no tensioner)

                      3) Other recommended options ?

                      Cheers
