    7A oil pump A or B suffix?

    Hello all,

I am wondering whether anyone can tell me whether the A and B suffix on 034 115 105 denotes any significant difference? I registered on VagCat and have been trawling parts suppliers websites to find out and some say 034 115 105 A and B are interchangable and some don't even mention 105 A at all (vag Cat)

VagCat say the 105B fits 7A, NG, KV and then the 105C is listed for just KV. It is this kind of listing which makes me think that the letter may denote a small change in spec as if the 105B fits KV engines, the 105C can't be that much different?!

    many thanks for input!

the only thing i can say is i know that the kv oilpump drive gear on the crank have 2 teeth so the oilpump have also 2 teeth
the later oilpumps have 4 teeth gear so the kv oilpump will never fit a younger engine with a 4 teeth oilpump gear

      ahhh... that is interesting.

I bet a 4 teeth drive gear pump can be retro fitted to a 2 drive gear crank but not vice versa. I wonder if that is the difference then - audi decided pump 'A' was alright ish but would be better with a 4 tooth drive and made a pump 'B'?

the 034 115 105 B pump is so damned expensive, i was hoping to have some options to weigh up but only if they are right!

Just in case anyone is wondering, i have had some info from the dealer about the A and B pumps. It seems that the B pump is a direct succession to the A both have 4 drive teeth and it changed over in 2002. This is good because prior to 2002; should my 7A have needed a new oil pump, then i would have only had the option for the 'A' pump to pick anyway so i imagine it will still fit now!

This is doubly good news as I have bagged myself the bargain of the century and got a brand new Genuine 034 115 105 A oil pump on its way to me for £42 including postage! I am as happy as Larry with that and for that sort of money, it is a no brainer to fit it as it saves £15 in vapour blast cleaning, £20ish for new timing belt idle roller and £6 for a new crank seal on my old pump!

what the hell?! that is scary stuff

The one I have on the way has made in Poland cast into the housing, not sure on their engineering heritage but it is nearer Germany than Korea so it can't be all that bad!

Will definitely open it up and have a look inside though, the thought of carborundum dust going into the engine isn't worth thinking about, I'm fitting the pump as a possible cure for low oil pressure, one filled with grit won't help at all.

            Cheers for the heads up.

sorry both - i don't think it is a source that will yield any more i'm afraid. It was from a VW group dealership that list on ebay, I get the impression that their listings were all things that had been ordered in but not collected or paid for and were time expired for returns or become NLA so the factory didn't want them back.

The listing said 'fits VW passat 1981-1988 and VW transporter', I phoned them and it turns out they were a commercial vehicle place, i don't think any current stuff will need an old 5 cylinder oil pump so it was sold cheap to get rid.

If they had more i'm sure they would have all gone to this forum!

I have been lucky on similar garage clearouts, so you did well there.
