Hi lynx, sorry to hear your new turbo has gone up in smoke 3-4mm of shaft end float sounds like the bearings are shot, it maybe more cost effective if you get the turbo repaired in your country. I wish I new more about turbos, as your problem has concerned me to. All I can think it would be is oil starvation or the turbo oil drain line was obstructed, maybe the turbo was assembled incorrectly or not balanced very well. Like I said im no expert.

    Dont give up dude!!!

Looking at the site, there's an oil restrictor required for the garrett turbo's or else the oil bypases the seals

Did you buy one of these?

Ofcourse, I will repair it here, there' s isn' t any other way. Transport to USA and back, costs me one turbo price.

But before I remove turbo & get reconstruct it, I' d like to know what happened. Can it be the "drive in" failture?
Second time I won' t gonna let it repair it.

But now looks like I gonna need new exhoust system without cats, new by - pass, and certainty, there will be something more! Bigger cone filter too . . . nice, my girlfriend going to kill me!

And my friend going to hate soon my & my car beacuse all work we doing in his garage

@ the moment, I' m not planning to give up . . . but sound installig and spl competition will be dream only.

Could well be, when you get the turbo repaired, ask them what the cause of failure was.

For $15 it's better safe than sorry.

              hy,

I commune with JavaD and seems all problem caused by me
Oil inlet supposed to be on top of the turbo, but mine was on the side.
Looks like it is main things on turbos.
This is my first turbo car and I didn' t really know . . .

Anyway, I hope I could remove turbo this week and took to the repairing.

I hope the car will be ready for 28 may, when One Mile Challenge 2005 will be. Just I' d like to see, what my car capable of.

              One question.
The pipe witch comes from solenoid "valve", does it have to be connected? When I got my new turbo, then there was a place, but little bolt screwed on it.

              with best regards,

I think Jamo's quite right about the oil restrictor, by the sounds of it the garretts only seem to require 10psi oil pressure to effectively lubricate the thrust bearings but I'm pretty sure the oil supply to the k24's are a lot higher. This could explain the excessive amount of smoke.
I'm sure I've hear of this problem before.

                  Lynx,

Before you install anything as important as turbo by yourself you have to consult with experts (Laki Tuning for example). When I changed EM then Eero from Laki told that turbo vertical angle regarding the oil inlet and outlet can differ 15 degrees max. You can unbolt both - hot side and cold side to move them in right position.

Võid mulle oma numbri anda, siis on lihtsam suhelda.

and finnaly . . . I got turbo back yesterday, and installed it.
At the time, when car was stopped, I removed cats and put the pipe for it.
                    Exhoust system repaired too.

Restrictor for lowering oli pressure for turbo, have made and installed. And oil is going inside top now on, not the side.

Ok, everything seems to work, but there' s one problem.
I got new by - pass, bigger one (from steel) and it' s chattering, even on the place, when I' m pussing gas pedal. It isn' t normal. I' ll tried to search for it, but . . . I couldn' t find anything witch associate with my problem. Could anyone help my please

                    with best regards,

                      hy,

                      I answer myself.

Because new turbo have a bigger could air inlet, old pipe (how else I call this thing) no any use. I let to do new, with steal, but in this one, by- pass inlet is near the maf, not anymore near the turbo inlet.

So, I tested yesterday, and I found out, that the pipe witch comes from by -pass, and comes to the turbo could air intake is to tall and thin. So, I tooked the bypass up, near to the maf and all problem solved.

Now I' m going to "drive in" turbo about 1000km, then try new software, and will see, what going to happend

                      with best regards,
