Hello, I have just acquired a Disco 2 td5 auto off my friend. It has a bell auto services installed vgt turbo, boost box, decat, egr remove, full stainless turbo back, bigger intercooler and I cant believe how awful it is. I have nanocom on it and am looking around. I live at sea level and the Ambient Air pressure sensing is showing approx 890kpa, I also have a large hill behind my house and it is adjusting by about 10 kpa across 400 feet. Expecting 1013kpa at sea level, would this create a massive lag at low rpm? No pull until well over 2k rpm .Is there anyone on here that may be able to clear this up? Cheers!

Sounds like the vnt isn't closing down at low rpm to give boost. You should have a vacuum signal at the vnt actuator on idle. Unless this is some sorta weird conversion that uses a different actuator system.

If the actuator line is from the compressor outlet then it's been converted to a pressure vnt system. I have never seen these work right. Try shortening the actuator rod.

Also check if you can see a limit screw on the turbo. The actuator system should pull the control lever up onto that screw when at idle. Also try adjusting that screw shorter to close the vnt down more. If it's too open it will be laggy too closed causes a large exhaust back pressure which you feel release as soon as the actuator opens slightly.

I have heard that they are slow on the startup and pull away, I have driven a few but his seems wrong considering it is supposed be 180 hp and 430NM, it's bloody rubbish in town!Comment

Once it has stopped bucketing down I am going to try and shorten the thread. I have a nanocom and can pull the map and driving logs, when I figure out how to that is!Comment

In your first picture you can just see the rusty limit adjustment screw that the lever should be sitting up against when it's at idle. It looks well off in the pictures but it's hard to see due to the angle.

So have I got this, the actuator defaults to lift the rod at idle (no pressure), and the actuator pushes downward once the turbine is generating pressure, adjusting the internal geometry. The stop is protruding only about 3mm down currently, with a good 12-13mm spare on the thread. You mentioned large exhaust back pressure if the stop is in too short a position? Would that pressure stop it from spinning up the turbine initially?Comment
