vehicle speed sensor connected to autocheck?

    Hello all,
I currently have the persistent autocheck oil warning BEEP BEEP BEEP on my dashboard, i don't believe it to be accurate as it tells me there is low pressure even when the engine isn't running! I've done a search and read that this is not unusual and that you need to ground the single pin pressure sensor as simply disconnecting the wires does not cure it.

I ran out of day light so couldn't chase the problem any further but did a fault code read and got 1231 which is G68 / G22 speedo sender faulty. My speedo works fine which leads me to think there must be more to it in how they work together but knowing the autocheck oil warning has a 2000rpm trigger, they must be linked?...

both my F1 and F22 sensors are new and the loom from the sensors to the multi plug has no breaks or shorts between wires.

I've also read through the posts by urs4boy and the references to connector 'T6C' doesnt mean that much to me, is there a wiring 'map' which can be used to identify where these things might be? It is a topic which has been discussed in some detail in said post by Dave but i am not experienced enough to know where to find and identify where the plugs are behind the dash that are talked about. Having said that, i'm inclined to think the problem is under the bonnet somewhere as the engine has just been out for work and put back...

    thanks in advance.

It could be the sender, there are two switches as you point out, one really low pressure, and then the VDO one that does your pressure sender and has switch in it as well -this is likely the one to have failed.

Having said that, I went round in circles trying to fix the exact issue you have, replacing just about everything, and still I would get the oil warning every time I went over 3K rpm... After Alex (Error404) on here suggested it was likely the autocheck dying, I had the dash apart to repair the odometer, squirted contact cleaner everywhere and ran a soldering iron over any joints I though suspect on the Autocheck board.

    Result? No more oil warning

I have a random water level warning though, but that is the header tank float sticking(!)

thanks for the diagram - that helps quite a bit.

There may have been a development this evening...

I still have an old pressure gauge sender knocking about so unplugged the wires from the one in the block and plugged them back onto the old sensor which was just lying loose on top of the radiator cowling. An earth lead from the body to earth and turn on the ignition...

No autocheck oil warning beep. I haven't run the engine yet as without the old sender being in the block it wouldn't add any evidence. If it wasn't so flipping difficult to get to, i would have done the swap.

This is both encouraging and disappointing - i may have found the fault the fault may be the brand new VDO sender

I'l be contacting the supplier tomorrow to see what they can do.

Sounds like you have the sender with the 1.8 bar pressure switch rather than the 0.3 bar switch.
The part you need is 035 919 561, you most likely have 035 919 561 A. Who was the supplier?

Can tell you for fact - the 'new' VDO senders aren't wired the same way as the old ones... I discovered this doing a UR wiring conversion a few years ago - the pressure switch should be around 0.3 bar for the ABY.

              DOH.

I do indeed have the 035 919 561 A sender which has the 1.8bar trigger.

It looks like this sender may well be up for sale soon at a very good price as VW heritage supplied the part they advertised, it was my mistake not knowing the A suffix made a difference to how it operated. what a balls up.

thanks for the clarification, the only saving grace is - I don't need to delve into my autocheck and its wiring looking for faults!

You can use a generic aftermarket VDO sender, the threads are M10 taper so just need to run a die down them to fit

                Have look at this thread:

Sorry, *IF* I had figured out that real issue was oil pressure senders, not the G22 Vehicle Speed Sensor like the title of your thread, I would have linked you to this:

Key part of that post is:

"UPDATE: I am told by Thuppu on the S2forum that the UrS4 oil pressure sender 034919561 is NLA. This leaves the S2 ABY and RS2 ADU oil pressure sender, 035919561, which is probably identical electrically to the 034919561 (both are listed as 0 to 5 Bar for the sender portion and 0.3 Bar for the secondary pressure switch. However, 035919561 has M10x1 threads. Therefore, to install 035919561 in the M16x1.5 hole, you need an adapter than has the M16x1.5 threads on the block end and the M10x1 on the outer end. This adapter *was* PN 034103179. However, to make things more complicated, I am told that Kate 7.3 says 034103179 has been replaced from December 2008 with Adapter 074103179."

                    RESULT

I have screwed in an old oil pressure sensor and been out for a run. No beeping alarm any more. Happy with that but I am happier with my 'special tool' that i made to get the swap done. I know there is a specific tool made by Matra to do the job but funny old thing, they don't have them in my local motor factor and would no doubt cost more than the £2.99 I spent.

Cheapest 17mm spanner i could find bought for £2.99, chop the ring end off and give it a tactical bend and it made the job a piece of cake. The bend allows the spanner to get in behind the sender and onto the hex flats. I went in from above around where the coolant pipe comes out of the thermostat housing. It only took a small turn to crack it off then undo by hand. Re fit reverse of removal. WELL CHUFFED.

Oh nice, I would have expected it would need more of a bend than that, that is certainly something I will do if I need to pull mine out again...
