    Oil cooler placement

Has anyone tried placing a Mocal or Setrab oil cooler where the Aux rad was mounted?

Not a good idea really, to high, that's why most manufacturers have it at sump level.

I have a large mocal fitted up there too. I started off with it fitted up there in place of the aux rad and then moved it down low when I had another change around last year.
Then recently when I fitted the big 24"x12"x3" IC I could not find anywhere to place it down low due to lack of space, so I moved it up high again.

I agree with Mark that it would be better off down low, and I will have a look at repackaging things later this year when I have the engine out again.

Having said that though it does seem to be getting good flow, with the core getting very hot when the engine temps are high. It helps having the unions at the top to stop the oil from draining out of the cooler, interestingly though, when I have removed the hose unions from the filter housing in the past, the hoses have always been full of oil and don't seem to drain.

Thanks for the sneaky peek Mark. I was too busy talking to Robin last time I had a chance to look. I loved the EM though.

                Piggy-back question:
Rather than use an oil-to-air cooler, how about oil-to-water plumbed into the main cooling system? Has anyone thought about this or given it a go?
Depending on answers, may be on a mission to get this done at some point when a certain new facility opens up in Northants/Midlands.
                Ck.

So did you get a pro welder to do it?? Or have you used more bird poo?? Looking good mark either way. I need to upgrade my oil cooler and breather system this year, plus some brake mods. That should be about it this year. Maybe..

Yep, did as you said and got it Tigged by a pro, I've decided trying to Mig weld ally is too much of a PITA.

                        Thanks for the BTDT.

Is the red thing on the firewall a catch tank for oil? What's the green thing hanging off the front of the turbo? I think your engine needs an interior decorator to color coordinate things for you
