    Thermostat rage!

Paying good money for phone number to the engineer who placed the thermostat on theese engines..

I've been trying to get at it for three days now. The whole front is dismantled and so far I've only barely seen the thermostat housing.

I'm towing it to the dealer tomorrow...

    Naah, don't give up.

All you need is to unbolt the middle section of the lock carrier and take the PAS pump belt out and unbolt the pump and raise it as much as the hoses let you. There it is.

Thanks, but I have allready unbolted the pumb and removed the bracket and belt. Still can only move it about 3cm upwards. I can see one of the thermostat bolts, but I'm nowhere near reaching it with any tools...

I want my Mazda Rx-7 back.. It only took me about 2 minutes to change it's thermostat, and that was including coolant refill.

Perhaps it's a bit different on DF engines then. In 3B I was able to raise the pump so that it sat between the IM and radiator, or actually a bit above.

It isnt much fun, but you can do it by pulling the pump out of the way.

I found this very easy with the radiator out. good access, i followed the guide from MikeS2

I didn't disconnect the PAS pipe as it's not neccessary.

I wish I didn't have the AC.. If I remove the radiator, I will have to remove the AC-condenser too. And that is serious work.

I've been trying to get the PAS pump out of the way for an hour now, but it's too tight between the AC condenser and the intake manifold.

Can anyone tell me hove many bolts there are in the thermostat housing?

I'm selling the car as soon as I get this sorted. Never had more problems with a car, and the way it's built it's a bitch to work on..

Finally got my thermostat housing of! After using some muscle i got the pump out of the way, thanks for the tip guys.

But... I'm not able to remove the old thermostat, it just won't move. I've tried pulling it out, prying it out and even hitting it with a hammer!
                This car is just FANTASTIC!

Hit it more, twist it with a screw driver etc. It will come out. You can't break anything else than the old stat.

Thanks Porkkis! The twisting did the trick.
Too bad the old thermostat looks rather okay, might have to find another source of my low-temp problem.

Picture of the MFTS (marked "B")

Picture is from this thread: "Just bought an S2 - Temperature question"

There may be other answers for you here.

Not so relevant but also talks about MFTS

Also do a search on MFTS

And the MFTS is reletad to boostproblems too?? Bacause I sure have that too.

Very interresting reading, thanks a lot Angus!

Btw.. The "selling-my-car-when-done-part" was just temporary insanity, now it's getting more interresting than irritating.

Yes, the ecu can reduce boost if the MFTS is toast.
Just try disconnecting it to test.
