Help! Found rubber bits in the sump of my ABY

Hi! I'm doing some work on my avant and was going to install a sump baffle plate from Thuppu. I got a bit worried when I found these in the sump, and on the mesh of the oil pump intake pipe...

Can someone please help me identify what this may have been, and how it ended up in the sump? It is some kind of hard flexible rubber. Maybe from a seal? The car have been running good with RS2 setup. Oil pressure was ok, and it doesn't use much oil.

I guess it's the part fitted to the end of the oil pick up pipe (the manifold)

    Edit. Pic added. Item #20

Thanks for the reply! The manifold on the pipe is in one piece, but it is possible the bits have been from an old part that has been replaced. This is the first time I have taken of the sump. So in that case the rubberbits has been laying there since before 2009 when i bought the car... Should I just clean everthing up and put it back on?
