    honed cylinders vs persformance pistons

hey guys, the previous owner put performance h profile rods in my car and had the cylinder honed and put in new stock pistons, since im going to run more boost in the future i wanted to put in JE performance pistons. the only thing i dont know is can i drop in some stock performance pistons after a honed engine or do i need to have the cylinder walls measured to ensure the correct piston? i defenitely dont want to lose compression and or order a wrong piston. any help would be greatly appreciated

also which pistons should i take? JE , Wiseco or Wossner ?

Bores will need honed or bored to match the new pistons. I like wossner for a road car as they run tighter tolerances than most other piston manufacturers so less slap. Also fcp engineering pistons which seem to be a wossner look a like. All most.

You will need to have the block bored and honed to suit the pistions you purchase. The clearances vary based on application and materials used in the manufacture of the pistons and rings. I'd use Wossner if I was buying now due to smaller clearance required based on the alloy they are made from. JE's need a larger piston to bore clearance and as a result they can be noisy when the engine is cold.

2618 vs 4032 alloy difference is the determinant clearance factor. Of course also the manufacturer specs and machining design of the piston make small differences.

Unless you're running 500+ bhp, then stock pistons are more than adequate, with the only downside being the 9.3:1 compression ratio. Audiman even ran skimmed stock pistons with near 600bhp.

Depending on the scope of your build, if it's for RS2 power or 400bhp, then stock pistons will be fine. Do a compression test on the engine, to check health and maybe factor in a new, thicker head gasket to drop the CR and full head inspection / rebuilt, as it's more likely that the head is cracked and needs attention than the pistons being a limiting factor.

I got everything from FCP and was very impressed with the service and received positive feedback on the parts from the engine builder.

Stock pistons is forged. I know a few people running 800 engine hp on stock pistons.
