    What oil switch is this?

I've got an oil leak at the front of the engine just behind the crank pulley. It seems like an oil switch of some sort just by the sump but I can't figure out what it is. Can anybody help?

Oil temp sender, hard to see in your pic, but this is also where a crank seal leaks down to before dripping off onto the ground/splattering the entire side of the engine with oil.

Thanks for that, was curious as I didn't know about it! Would you suggest replacement or can a new washer be fitted to stop the leak?

If it works, and has a washer, then yes, just replace the washer, I don't think they are cheap to buy new.... IIRC I kept my old one when replacing the oil pump as I saw just how much they were!

IIRC they're about £60 from Quattro Corner. I got mine replaced a year ago although as it turned out the oil leak in that area was actually caused by the other oil pressure switch on the side of the block under the inlet manifold, then running down. I replaced both of them anyway to be sure
BTW be careful when removing that one as there's a spring behind the sensor for the oil pressure relief valve and it shoots out when you remove it!

I paid 26,77€ for mine back in 2014. It leaked right through, sealing washer did not help as it leaked internally. A friend working as a cars mechanic said it was quite common problem on these senders.

As above, i have seen them leak around the plastic center of the sensor. Give it all a good clean and then see where the oil is coming from...
