UrS6 - New Style Coils - Which Ones & Where to Buy ?

Our collective knowledge increases over time for these cars. Bosch spark plugs and NGK being a case in point.

And so while I know this point has been covered before, I am keen to get the current thinking on the matter.

I wanted to ask what are thought to be the best coils to buy for an AAN engine currently, where it is using the newer syle individual coils ?

One or two of my Bremi coils have failed. While the car does need to be adjusted to deal with the newer style coils, ( latency ??? ), so as not to shorten their service life, the Beru ones still seemed to have failed a bit too quickly.

Ideally wanted black ones, rather the fire engine red colour, although if red are the best I'll use them.

I am assuming that I can get them at a motor factors rather than pay the Dealers prices?

Or is it best to buy oem coils from the Dealers, using the same as the logic as regards the cost v benefit analysis with a heater matrix, or header tank ?

Thanks for any help and part numbers.

Have to say, i have been thinking of taking the red coil packs out of mine and going back to the stock style beru coilpacks. To be honest you should do the same David as your original coil packs will be perfectly fine with such low mileage, just fit new rubber boots between the coil packs and plugs and call it a day.

Ok David,Mcandma has already answered that question. Are you sure the coils are faulty on such a low mileage engine? It could be just the connecting boots as already mentioned but if not i would stick to buying originals as they do last at least 15 years or so.

Often the coils are fine but the wiring is toasted. Same goes for budget TFSI coil conversion kits

Hi guys, the coils I was referring to are the newer style TFSI coils, made by Bremi.

Agreed re the wiring in the old style coils being tired now at 19 years.

The wiring for the TFSI loom I'm using is mint as it is the one of yours Error.

I will dig out two old oem style coils on the lids that I have and look to 'refurbish' them.

              Thanks for replies.

Yes, but not as low as it used to be. Now at 65k.

I appreciate it is all relative, but it was 30k 4 years ago.

Great to be driving it everyday though.

Does anyone remember whose project thread on here which went into some very good detail with photos on refurbishing the original coils on the 20vt lid ?

It was impressive and I'd like to be able to re-read it before starting into doing my own.

                  Thanks if you do.

                    IMPORTANT

I need to correct an error here on my part.

The faulty new style coils were in fact BREMI coils and not the Beru coils as initially stated above. My mistake. I've corrected the offending manafacturer's name in my earlier posts above.

I would suggest not making Bremi coils your first choice if you have a choice when next buying coils. They are not robust enough to deal with a non altered dwell angle.

Another Bremi coil failed on me tonight. I will be buying three more Beru ones tomorrow to eliminate the remaining three Bremi coils.
