Evaporate circuit and carbon canister query!

After changing the fuel filter and a pipe under the rear of my coupe, I noticed that one of the steel fuel/evaporate lines has a whole in it by the fist clamp where moisture has been trapped by the clamp ( common fault according to forum search on fuel lines )

I understand it to be the evaporate line running to the carbon canister as the is no fuel leak, so it's not the feed or return, thankfully!!

Although the this does not give me much confidence about the condition of the feed and returns condition where they meet the rest of the clamps, will have to do a refit of the lines to be happy tbh

My main question is, what if any symptoms would a leak in the evaporate line cause, and two, can the carbon canister become blocked or past its best due to age ?

And three, how come when I stop the engine I can hear the fuel cap venting, at first listen you would almost think it's the fuel pump still running with the car off, when the cap is removed there is a woosh of vapor/air either in or out its hard to tell, wouldn't the tank be free of negative or positive pressure with a hole in the evaporate line?

Four, where if any is the evaporate solenoid fitted , before of after the whole in the pipe which is at the first clamp starting from the reR looking forward next to the fuel filter?

    Hi,

Have a look through these posts, found using the search link that 'imperfect' Dave left us. It's pretty good / handy tbh.

There are other threads on this forum about the same thing. I remember some have 'scary' photos.

    Good luck.

Solenoid is the blue thing under the inlet manifold with a 2 pin blue plug.

Damaged pipe isn't ideal but shouldn't affect running of the car, as the solenoid ensures only a small amount of air enters the inlet and even then I think it's only at idle. Also shouldn't affect ventilation of the fuel tank, unless the line is blocked, however, it's still not ideal and should be fixed.

        Thanks guys!!
Another quick question which might seem strange, the carbon canister seems heavy to me in the hand, do they all have a bit of weight to them?

I mean carbon is light stuff , what I'm getting at is could there now be moisture in the canister?

        Thanks again for the help!
