As the title says, I was wondering whether or not the fuel pressure accumulator is a necessary item. On my car it's located on the fuel pump bracket, together with the pump and filter.
Also heard rumors that the fuel system actually works better without it, can anyone confirm this?
The accumulator is there for the CIS injection only.
Is there for an reason, iff you have the CIS injection, then keep'it.
Iff you have efi injection, you can remove that from the system.
Goodluck!
When I bought my B2 90 2.2kv I had trouble starting it, because the accumulator was removed. I had to crank it for a good minute or so to get it started. Now with the accumulator it starts straight away. As I understand it holds fuel pressure in the system while the engine is not working.
I have never had a Audi with CIS, but had a 16V Jetta back in the day. I also have a 1990 VW Fox Wagen that I am doing some upgrades to. So the Jetta had two pumps as does the Fox. Intank pump to the accumulator, and then a second pump next to the accumulator, to boost fuel to the engine. So I noticed on the parts list that the CIS Audi coupes, only has an accumulator and an intank pump. This is what I want to do to the Fox. Eliminate the second pump and just go the intank pump with the accumulator.
I will be using a Coupe Q pump for the intank pump, so I am assuming enough, it has enough pressure and volume for my Fox. Does all this sound correct?

They can have my car when they pry my cold dead fingers from the steering wheel.
