    Coolant Additives

Has anyone used any coolant additives in their beasts, eg something like:

"RADIATOR RELIEF. Simply the best coolant system additive on the market today. Radiator Relief is for use with water and/or anti-freeze and is designed to function in two ways:- 1) Radiator Relief eliminates problems with high operating temperatures in your passenger car, street rod, racecar, RV etc. The addition of Radiator Relief to your coolant system will reduce operating temperatures by as much as 30°F. 2) Radiator Relief will also provide a 50% quicker warm-up time to operating temperature. This characteristic is not only beneficial to motorsport professionals, but to daily drivers who can enjoy the comfort of heat in half the time for those cold mornings. Radiator Relief provides increased engine life through improved coolant performance. "

If so, I'd be interested to hear your views on the pros and cons.

I did put some of that Water Wetter in mine once and yes, it did lower the water temp by about 5-10 degrees. The my top hose blew and I lost the lot!! :-)

I put whole new set of hoses on and a new rad (top outlet snapped) and now the car runs lower temp all the time without any additives.

I have this thing about high temps, I really hate them... so anything that lowers the engine temp or engine bay temp, then I'm for it! This stuff appears to work, but there are people on this board who don't like them, stand up and be counted Paul!!

There is this theory that if you lower the water temp to far, then the ECU may think it's cold and richen up the mixture... the debate is open...

I used water wetter when i took me beloved (and the wife ) around Europe a couple of years back. As it was mid summer and we were off to the european and french grand prixs, i thought it would help manage the temperatures queuing for hours in and out of the circuits. As it happened it's on Silverstone that can't manage traffic and we breezed in and out of the Nurburgring and slept for 2 hours immediately after the french so didn't test it too much.

What i did notice was that it did run a few degrees under normal and also it dislodged a shed load of scale and crap from the cooling system which has got to be good!

Martyn, I'm with you on this - hot temps make me sweat!!!!!

I am with you guys on this, providing the thermostat is working, the temp should remain the same all the time when driving, but when you are in a traffic jam i think that water wetter will aid heat transfer, and save hoses from bursting also i use the air con as that brings down the temp shed loads
