Engine running in procedure-whats the proper way?

Hi guys,im not to far of from starting my fully rebuild engine for the first time. There is a plenty of different opinions on how to run the engine in properly and i would like to ask you guys about your experience and opinions. Also ,what oil would you use?
As fare as i know ,it should definitely not be fully synthetic oil,but mineral oil. Also there is a diffrent types of special braking in oils on ebay-again ,what is your experience on that boys?

I know there are different schools of thought on the subject. If you Google it there is an interesting article near the top called break in secrets by mototuneusa, basically the "floor it" method to ensure the rings bed in before the bores become smooth. I have used this on my own cars engines rebuilt my myself but I would await the response of the professional engine builders on here.

I used mineral oil for the first 1000 miles and changed a couple of times. There have been a few threads here on the subject in the past as to the floor it method, but each to their own I think.

The pedal to the metal option is very difficult for me to believe its the good way to brake in the new engine but i might be wrong

Millers do a running in oil - I used this on my quattro turbo MB after the engine was rebuilt.

Avoid motorways as sitting at a constant speed and rpm is not good. I went on a cross country drive on back roads for about 50-70 miles or so and then dumped the first oil fill.

Disable boost control, use up to around 2/3 revs and throttle, and plenty of engine braking to get some pressure behind the rings - you'll feel the engine loosen up and feel more lively after a bit, then you are good

The brake in method I use for the bike engines I've built is generally go careful always wait untill up to temp but do regular hard acceleration loads to load up the rings and do equally regular engine braking de-celeration for the same reason. I guess somewhere in between the floor it and the carful method. Also run on a cheep mineral oil for the first 500 or so miles then drop it out and inspect it the go for another 1000 miles on a good quality mineral then do the same, after thy run it on whatever quality syth you choose

This is really interesting, and when I read in to it,it make sens, and here is my other problem,I don't know what to do about. As my engine is now RS2 spec I will need software change which I was planning to do with AutoMark -that's 270miles trip.My current software was showing 280bhp before modifications to the engine. So can I use this software for hard accelerations?

This was my issue too, but so long as you still on original injectors and vary the engine load and do not rev excessively you should be OK. I ended up using lots of full throttle but only upto 3500rpm and lots of engine braking as much as poss, keep away from constant speed. Once on Fuchs race oil 5w-50 at 1500miles I took it upto Automark who changed the injectors, gave the engine a good check over end did a live map (have you added an extra lambda point to the exhaust so he can fit his wideband in). Good luck

Thanks bud,I'm on RS2 injectors now and exhaust is still to be made.
So I have got ide now how to brake the engine in,the only problem is the the conflict -RS2 hardware ,unknown software and how to sort it out now?

Unplug WGFV and run stock injectors with your current software - you will be fine
