Thanks for the advice. Took the car for a long trip up the A12, car still has'nt gone to limp mode(Yet). But was boosting to 1.5bar. Car feels very strong, but not as strong as an ex-S6/N-reg MTM (300bhp)equipped by QST that i had for a while, so i dont believe its been played with. My brother-in-law used to work for AM quattros in ilminster in the early ninties on the UR models, he tells me that the WG has not been played with, cap is still in place, he tells me its difficult to replace once removed. From here then i need to get it pressure tested? Is it worth while making the trip and taking it to some who KNOWS these cars and to that end, any to suggest? Where are Mihnea and Co and the MRC boys?
WGFV is it wrong?

Where are you Richard?

Almost certainly an air leak.
Pull fault codes if you can - s2central.net tells you how ...
Then reset the ECU by pulling the pair of 'MOTOR' fuses in the main fusebox. Leave them out for a minute or so. This will get the ECU out of limphome mode.
Usual candidates for root cause apply - main hoses, braided control hoses, TBV, O-ring, WG diaphragm, WGFV or PCV system.
Needs a leak test done !

Paul have been following your advice from this tread (very sound, not complaining) Yes, TBV and WGFV were faulty( tested as discussed in this tread, then replaced by audi parts TBV-S3 item). fault code remains 0544. Will a pressure test solve this air leak issue? were can i find the PCV and O-ring.
Appologies for my ignorance.
Thanks martin.Comment

The O-ring being referred to is the infamous one at the left side (UK passenger side) of the intercooler. This is a well known weak point in the system. The now famous 'Mark H' modification is to replace this O-ring connection with a cut down section of 70-60mm silicone hose. Search for the 'MarkH mod' here - you'll find the details soon enough.
A pressure test is the only reliable way to determine the source of air leaks. You can inspect hoses all day long but its very hard to spot problems sometimes by eye, and you'll spot a holed intercooler unless you pressurise it.
The PCV system should be the last one you check, as its the least likely source of the problem. Its also the messiest - being the crankcase ventilation system which allows oil vapour and moisture in the form of blow-by gasses to deliberately find their way into the intake system. Cracks in some of these hoses can cause unmetered air to be inhaled by the engine.

Paul,
I'm Hopeless and useless, struggling to find markH mod, but seen many links talking about and showing pictures of intercoolers with front bumper off. Is the modification- top right of intercooler when viewed from front where intercooler fits into a crossover pipe from off side of engine? The thread shows two pictures of the front of an RS2, one with a small piece of silicon pipe fitted and one just a metal coupling. I'm sure this is it but just checking?
Thanks

Sorry to hijack the thread but I may have a related problem.
What does WGFV stand for and do I have one on a 3B engine.
I've got a fluttering noise on boost, the 3way solenoid boost control valve was blamed but I was told by my Audi dealer it hasn't got one!
Anyone know the truth?

Sounds like u need a new Divertor valve (DV). The view is the bosch/S3 version is one to go for.Originally posted by bobtookeSorry to hijack the thread but I may have a related problem.

Wastegate Frequency valve--3way solenoid boost conrtol valve, they are the same thing. Your car should have one so your dealer is talking out of his *** unless it has been removed and bypassed. Sounds like you may have a boost leak. Is it ok performance wise? boost ok?Originally posted by bobtookeSorry to hijack the thread but I may have a related problem.
