S2 stopped on highway - low oil pressure -help needed

    Hello

    Update: 12/4

The car does not start, and does not show any faults in vagcom

My s2 stopped on the highway yesterday. First the red oil light blinked (oil pressure light?) and the car just died.

Thought maybe it was a oil leak but could not see anything, I put on 1- 2 dl oil, and it started but then stopped again after about 250 meters.

The engine turns over fine, no knocking noise, but oil pressure on the guage is flipping between 1-2 bar when turning over. It almost fired when I tried after it had stod still for 15 min. Good level with oil on deepstick

Any Thoughts? Can be oil pressure sensor, but that would not make the ECU stop the car or is it something far more serious?

    Thanks

    Best regards

    Even

Maybe head gasket gone? Can you pull the spark plugs and check for oil in them

Will that cause the engine ecu to cut/ shut down the engine ? I think something triggered the ecu to shut down the engine, thats why my first thought were a faulty sensor

I put on new rs2 head gasket 1,5 years ago. No sign of oil leaks in engine bay or under the car. Can check the plugs anyway

Was just thinking that oil soaked plugs wouldn't fire so could explain loss of oil + not running. If sudden loss of oil pressure (for whatever reason) then wouldn't you hear the bottom end knocking?

Im sure the ECU looks for initial oil pressure to give permissive to start engine or am I dreaming?

Nope! You can run the engine without oil pressure until destruction!!
                  I think is something electric.

Pulled the codes today, none regarding this issue.

After that I turned the engine, it started, and the oil pressure boosted right up to 5 bar on the guage in the car. So everything seems normal again, weird...

So I think it have to be a electronic fault.. Always something after winter storage

Any suggestion to what kind of electronic fault that can stop the car while running when the oil pressure light comes on?

oh yes indeed...or just a few weeks of inactivity- had a bit of drama getting mine to fire up again this week...thankfully it did eventually.
Good luck with finding your issue
