  • 7A engine Identify Question

    Hi Everyone,

    Need some help, please.

I got hold of a potential 7A engine. I want use the cylinder head (converted obviously) from this engine on my AAN s6 but need to confirm that it is indeed a 7A engine.

Couldn't find the actual engine number but did find casting numbers and stuff.

    There was a 034 103 373 number and a WWO...
I think I also saw a K somewhere on the cylinder head.

    It is a 20v 5 cylinder but how can I confirm its a 7a?

It look just about like the one in the pic.

    Any help appreciated.

The photo you posted is of a 7A or the 2.0L (1994 cc) NM version. Same head regardless, 034103351B (the casting loaded with all the bits)

Some places to look for the engine number are found here:

    http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/123036.phtml

If you google the casting number, 034103373K, it seems to come back as being a 7A.

7A engine code is on the bottom end and not on the head like on the 20V turbo engine. The picture looks like a late model 7A engine with the bosch ISV and the cast exhaust manifold.

Not that it matters but how do you know it's not an NM?

            Hi

            Thanks for the feedback.

The pic is just a similar engine i found on the net but looks the same.

Here is a pic of the number found on the actual engine...side of the block.

Should i look for other numbers elsewhere on the block?

Yes just above in the pic is the engine code which is stamped towards the top behind the dip stick.

NM in 'late' version (restyled ISV, ECU, tank ventilation, cast exhaust manifold etc) did not exist.

Heads are the same except some weird early motors missing hole for temp sensor near the firewall. Have one such head.

Engine letters can be seen on the block in standard place.

The second motor doesn't apear to a 7A based on the engine number. See pic.

The engine number is all numbers ending with an X

the X at the end could be from an eXchange engine. But it's strange that it's all numbers without engine code. But I've never seen an exchange engine of an N/A 20V before. Maybe that's the way the did the numbring back in the day. The engine is an early style engine with the ISV connection at the intake manifold so can be 7a of NM

Looking at the engine mount and alternator mount it doesn't seem it has been in any B3 model Audi. It could have been installed with different i5 bottom end and could have been standing in different car. Just my wild guess.

So for future reference, the 7A engine number is stamped on the block (not the head like the 3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) on the intake side of the engine, under the water manifold, near one of the knock sensors?

Yes the code and number sits above the front knock sensor in between nr 2 and 3 cylinder. That spot is blank on the 20vt blocks

Great, thanks for all the help.
                              Now i got myself a 7A motor.

Oh, one other question. How do i identify the 7A cams in this head?

I won't be using them so need to take photos of part number i guess?
