So how much will a heat shield like this help?????

I figured when i do my "upgrade" I will have my local welding shop make me one of these.

I'll give them the turbo and the exhaust to downpipe gasket. Basically figuring it will take the place of that gasket.

    Opinions?
I chose not to choose life: I chose something else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who need reasons when you've got quattro?

May help keeping cold side cooler, by keeping lower heat irradiation to it.
May also keep turbine slightly hotter allowing less thermal energy wasting.

It might be shiny... but I don't like it either. I too would be worried about heat being unable to leave the hot side of the turbo efficiently enough.

Personally speaking I would go with a decent cold air feed to the airbox and look at some subtle bonnet (hood) vents to aid heat extraction.

Your ABY project *might* also benefit from the plastic pressure pipe fitted to latest engines as it is alleged to absorb less heat than the metallic one. I've never tested this scientifically - it just smells right...

To be honest,if this kind of heat shield was any good then i'm sure that we would see more of these on the market.Personally I wouldn't go for one
