If the price was the same, without a doubt I would choose the RS4.

Having driven both cars in standard form, the RS4 wins hands down.

I've also driven an RS6+, didn't exploit performance at all, as the owner was sitting beside me, don't think he'd have been impressed!

After the 15 minute blast around croft which left me feeling green with a grin from ear to ear. I would choose an RS4 every time, but i hear what your saying about the mechanics, them engine bays are pretty cramped even compared to the S2/RS2 engine bay. I wouldnt like to be the bloke who blew his Turbo seals out of his RS4 MTM beast on his second or third run-the best part of a £5k job as the engine has to come out from under the car to gain access to the turbo's

I have not tried the RS2, but I have the s2 with RS2 hardware and I would choose an RS2. More character. RS4 was impressive but it is like a fast train, very fast, very easy, very boring. It is impressive at first glance but when you get use to it, it just doesn't deliver any passion. Is difficult to explain but the difference is in feel.

Engine is complicated but you should not have many problems if you keep it standard.

IMHO RS6 has a better drive than RS4 except the stupid Autobox (My father has owned both and I have test them in road and track so trust my opinion)

Of course I am talking the case it is a second car. For everyday drive RS4 no question.

                  Cheers

I ordered an RS4 to replace my RS2 back in 2000 - drove a few of the VAG demo cars at Milton Keynes and very impressed - my car arrived and was registered in my name e.t.c. but when it came to it I could'nt bear to swap my RS2 for the new RS4. The reasons - well the RS4 is very fast and capable and will outperform the RS2 in almost all conditions but it just does'nt have the raw appeal of the RS2. The RS2 is very much a Jekyll and Hyde car and the contrast between the two characters of the car is something that is'nt present in the RS4. I also think that long term the RS2 will be more of a classic than the RS4 due to less numbers produced and the fact that the RS2 was produced by Porsche with lots of Porsche parts.

Couldn't agree more. RS4 is a supperb car. Probably one of the best all round propositions and ideal for the only car in a family but it lacks something. I have done 27.000 km with a new one and everyday I kept liking it a bit less don't know why. S2 on the other hand with all its flaws makes me put a big on my face everytime I drive it. Its subjective but it is like that.

A 997 Carrera S would also put a smile in my head, one day you will be mine

I can't afford either so I may as well just stake my claim for an S8 or an RS6.

The RS4 doesn't do it for me - the character of a V6 engine simply never has - twin turbo or not its all a bit grey really... though I can't dispute the fact the RS4 is a mighty rapid driving machine. Just not my style is all !

From a styling point of view, i love the RS4, always have and always will, just think they look so nice with that wide stance ont he road as it drives toward you on the other side of the road. The RS6 also looks very very nice and sounds it too but i think is too big for its own good with all that power..

My choice (altho never been out in one) would be an RS4... From the last garage meet and having a good look over the one there, they just look sooooooooooooo nice and the engines make a lovely nice!!!

I'd go for the RS4, having seen Pickey's it's was an animal of a car.

I dont like the styling of the RS2 (i do like the power!) but i do the RS4, personal taste i suppose
