Bad Responce after cone filter fitment

Hi i have put a cone filter in my rs2 and i have the feeling that it does not built boost so fast as it was in stock. Problem is i have not a boost gauge.

I think the filter is big enough and it blows as hell on throttle off compared to the stock system! Dummp Valve is stock!

Is it only in my head because now i can hear the turbo better or had anyone else an experience like that?

    Greetings

Have you got a heat shield around the cone filter, have you made a cold air feed to the cone filter.

Sounds like a classic case of ther cone filter taking in hot air from the engine bay.

You'll hear the dump valve louder with a cone and possibly the turbo spooling up too. I had a cone fitted to my S2, i ran 2 cold air feeds to it and it definatly made a difference in torque. Suppose it depends if the cone is shielded away from the heat, could be getting heat soak??

      Cheers,

you fit it direct on the LMM or did you use a 180 "pipe for better intake.?

I fitted a Dahlback filter kit which comes with a big K&N, that was accompanied by a soundtrack that made for lots of loud and fast wooshing, spooling, sucking and spooffing(?) noises, which for me, all added to and gave the impresson of going faster.

In reality I haven't noticed any negative effects on boost, but having said that, shortly affter fitting it, I resolved a low boost problem and then had a remap with the boost set to peak about 1.9bar, so maybe not the best way to judge the effects of a new cone filtrer. It also came with a heatsheild that does seem to work very well, although things do heat up a bit in traffic.

I have no good heatshild yet, just some sheets of backofoil! I have left the the lower part of the stock filter box that ducts cold air from behind the light!

I have bought the cone for a gravel racing buggy that i am building and thought i give it a try on the RS2!

I have just put it directly on the LMM!

            Thats it

That looks like the cone I've got. Mine is attached straight on to the MAF, I have yet to fabricate any form of bend to make it point forwards, which I think would be a good idea.

They're definitely the style to go for, especially when using the pipe bend. The open intake in the face will help, as opposed to the ones that are blanked off.

Dan, a couple of 90 degree silicon hoses would do the job.
