i will pm them both to see what they think? But anyone else on here got any views on whether i shoud get a generic chip or custom remapping taking into consideration i do not have any mods. Will i still get the same power gains and torque gains from a generic chip

A generic chip will get you a very nice power level, a custom chip will make sure that it is set perfectly for YOUR car. Power wise you may only gain 5 BHP from the genric chip, but you will be safe in knowing that the engine is ALWAYS within its safe limits.

At present I dont have the chips available to do the S2. But that will be chanigning in the next few weeks. MRC will be able to do either generic or custom chips whenver you want them to.

Steve, I passed your email onto Doug (MRC Tuning UK) and he will contact you if he hasnt done so already

Yes doug has contacted me thanks very much for passing that on. I like the sound of 280bhp and 430nm of torque so i think i might go for the remap. What sort of performance gains can i expect with regard sto 0-60 and 60-100 times does anyone no. Would having the remapping done affect my reliability? One more thing how much is a generic chip and what would i notice performance wise by having this done

The generic chip I offer has been dyno'd on my car at 280bhp and 430Nm. Thats a totally standard S2 on good Optimax fuel of days of old. Price of the generic upgrade is £250 all in. It retains ALL the factory failsafe routines and factory diagnostic stuff.

As Tom and others have explained - the main difference on the custom map is that it can be made to run closer to limits of knock than a generic upgrade - getting the absolute nnth of performance from the engine. The other advantage of custom mapping is that the equipment required to do the job involves exhaust gas temperature (EGT) measurement to make sure that the engine isn't running too lean at high loads. This can be caused by blocked fuel filters or tired fuel pumps.

A custom job is more expensive by definition but you'll get the added satisfaction of that health check on the car by the MRC boys who thoroughly know their S2 tuning.

Whatever route you decide, its wise to thoroughly check for boost leaks, replace the WGFV, TBV and be sure your lambda probe and other Motronic sensors are all healthy. If you aren't that way inclined, then your looking at MRC to help there - at additional cost of course. I can't help with that as I live on the wrong island - sorry no - I live on the right island ;-)

I use a Mihnea chip on my (R)S2coupe and there's nothing like it. I have driven MTM S4s, LehmanS4s, and I also have a std RS2 Avant with a very poor quality local chipset They do not compare.
The low down performance from Mihnea's Generic setup is phenomenal.

I would drive 2000km to get a custom map done if MRC were that close to Cape Town.

My spare ECU is about to go on a job next week, but when it comes back you can try it for a while if you like. Subject to a returnable deposit of course, but if you like the outcome then I can get to work on your ECU while you drive around on the loaner.

Will PM you back to swap addresses and stuff.
