    pistons/rods good for 400bhp

    which ones?

engine is on the floor due to top end rebuild and gear box change

dont need to go super fancy for e.g pauters etc

budget - car will never exceed 400bhp

    cheers

I believe that standard S2 rods should be fine for you then, its more the torque thats gonna do the damage tho.

An RS2 turbo is apparently capable of breaking rods, depending on how its mapped.

Any higher spec rods will be fine. Don't need the absolute best ones for 400hp range.

Std pistons will cope with no probs.

anyone got any good contacts for rods?

            are RS2 rods strong enough?

AFAIK i thought RS2 rods were the same as S2 rods, which are in turn meant to be the same as Mk2 Golf 1.8 16v rods

Its TORQUE that bends rods. This has been discussed aplenty before. The generally accepted view on the safe torque limit for stock S2/RS2 rods is about 550Nm. Sure you could run close to 600Nm but that's getting close to the danger zone.

An ordinary RS2 installation can be mapped into potential rod bending territory if you so wish but I wouldn't ask the stock rods to do more than 500-550Nm.

Just looked at my dyno plot from interpro RR meet.
                  380 lb/ft = 515Nm...guess thats enough then for 3b rods
