    Compressed height of RS2 H/Gasket

Can anybody help me with the measurement of a compressed (used) height of the RS2 head gasket.
    Your help will be appreciated.

My one was 1.7mm thick when taken off the engine. I didn't use a micrometer, though, so the +/- 0.03mm are feasable.

Still quite tricky to measure the unswept volume due to odd shape of piston crowns. Tis possible to estimate any deltas quite accurately if you know how much unswept volume you are adding (in order to decrease CR).

Think there was a thread or two on this in the past. Seemingly the old paper gasketed 3B & ABY engines had a CR of 9.3 but the metal gasketed engine of the RS2 and late ABYs is nearer to 9.1. Just going on memory here...

Has anyone got a burette and fancy filling their combustion chamber/cylinder with liquid?

I have a burette, and I have to measure the combustion chamber and piston, having said that the piston I am using are non standard and the head has been ported. Therefore I am going to have different CR than standard.
You can measure the volume of the piston whilst in situ ie.: in the bore using the burette, that is the only way with odd shape pistons.

Yep - you make two measurements IIRC - one at depth-1 from TDC, and another at depth-2 from TDC. The difference in the two volume figures then tells you how much unswept volume is in the piston crown. Think thats the trick .....

The metal layer in the middle of the RS2 gasket is exactly 1mm. Adding it reduces CR by 0.4:1. I didnt have time to measure piston volume when i had my head off.

Here are my foundings on ccíng my head end engine

I measured a CR on my engine with a double HG of 7,9:1

the metal gasget is usually sold as 1.61 thick and around that I have measured, I have to check the middle of the gasget also, but I dont think that matters so much becouse head and blocks deck are straight.

Why people thinks that rs2 has different gasget from other engines?
its same for all except little issue for the 7a and bore.

well ok i has been different in 1995 but ITS FREAKING ten years AGO!

and the reason why I posted to this topic, are there people still claiming that
                    aan/adu/aby/3b has 9.3 CR ratio?

(be ware before answer, they all have same pistons, same gasget, same conrods, same head)

The RS2 gasket was made standard to all the cars as the paper gasket is no longer available but it wasn't installed by default, so the majority of cars will have different gaskets to the RS2

over 10 old cars newer any service to head ? 3b are close or over 15 year old, cant believe never had service..

But it does not matter you cant get anything else from the shop than metal gasget, so any new engine or repaired uses metal gasget, hopefully nobody uses 2nd time the old paper gasget.

Disbelief what you like - but I'll bet there's lots of S2 engines on their original gasket.

Its not exactly a common failure point on the car - unless running big boost on larger turbos - this gives the old paper gasket some stress.

Yep, my 3b had done 170.000km before i started with a new engine but my old 3B engine still had the paper headgasket and was still ok.

But now i`m also using 2 rs2 ones combined like jeffer.
