turbo issue?

Hi peeps ....

today i did a fast take off up to end of second gear then stopped at lights.. then i immidietly got a overboost protection cut off before i even hit 2k revs. I pulled over and restarted the engine and the opverboost has gone away. However the power is not all there now. It struggles and it seems the tubo is working slower (i.e. takes a lot longer for it to spin up) and before it does it gives me more turbo lag

Ive cleaned the maf, done plugs but for some reason its runnigns slow.. any idea's ?

Maybe the Valve controlling the Wastegate has gone, so you go to Safe mode?

Also ive been getting hesitation ever since I put a 280 chip into it and a harder WG spring. 3rd gear and upwards I feel the boost up and down maybe 4 times before i upgear. Ive asked this question to numerous pple with not much success at fidning the issue. What could cause this issue (hesitation) ?

You should not be screwing with springs with a remap on a stock car - has it been remapped with the spring? Sounds like too much boost for the chips - and the ECU does not like it.

No It has not been remapped. I was told the spring would not cause any damage / side effects and was added at the same time as the chip was.

Of course it will cause side effects as the chips have to be matched to what the car is doing. Put the stock chips and stock spring back in and run it like that - see if you get the same problems. I bet you won't.

I hope that hesitation wasn't the car pinging - you should not be driving if it was.

Its only from 3rd gear onwards. I will put the stock spring back in only as I no longer have the stock ECU ( i swapped it for the chipped ecu).

Whats pinging? Ive herd the term before. Anyway to check if it it pinging? (from sound of engine?)

Pinging, or pinking or knocking, is the sound the engine makes when the fuel/air mixture detonates prematurely. This is without question bad news. Its main cause is when the ignition is too advanced for the fuel/air mix in the cylinder at that time. This can be caused by bad petrol (too low octane), bad timing set up generally (screwed timing in hardware), or possibly in your case having too much boost and not enough control over ignition timing from the ECU.

The S2 ECU has built in knock detection, and retards ignition (and boost) automatically under higher load to prevent knock. If you're mechanically overriding the boost control with a stiffer wastegate spring, the ECU can't retard boost electronically and so you'll get pre-detonation.

You can physically hear it as a crackling, popping, knocking sound under high engine load - accelerate from low revs in high gear.

The hesitation only happens form 3rd gear onwards and only in high revvs once the turbo is in full swing. I cannot hear any unusual sounds tho apart from a loud whistle which is a bit over the top loud. I will back off the screw on the WG as instructed by tim as my first test, then try my stock spring and see how that goes.

cant ave ma ecu cause its a 3b and mines chipped too
