over boost cut out

friend of mine has the following problem,

car is a wr quattro with a 3b engine and rs2 turbo,

the car usually boosts to about 1.8 bar

at the moment, you can drive the car normally - no problems

if you boot it, it reach full boost a couple of times - then the over boost protection cuts in and you have to restart the car to reset it

told him to clean the connections of the MAF but no differance,


any ideas?

Dunno sounds like a mapping issue to me, 1.8bar is quite high a level to acheive if it had a boost leak.

wr's/ur's/mb's etc have a differnt intercooler location and dont suffer from this

its been boosting that much for years so think theres more chance that its a componet thats faulty or dirty

has he cleaned the MAF connector?

Maybe its a valve? Im not technical but i had similar issues and it turned out to be some sort of valve near the turbo? (it was jammed open/shut but i cant remember now)

Misunderstood what i meant, if it's boosting to 1.8 i doubt it has an air leak.

If it only occurs at wide open throttle, then could be ecu mapping issue, ecu fault, maf, throttle sensor etc etc

Blocked injector, really is a needle in a haystack guessing on just that info.

Did your friend discover the problem on his UR quattro? I have one with a very similar set up and have just experienced an identical problem all of a sudden.
