Does this MPG sound right??

I am regularly seeing 17 mpg from my S2 these days. It has a 270BHP AMD chip on it and 149,000 miles. It runs fine and feels strong so I don't think I have any problems. Bearing in mind that it is my weekend car and generally only gets driven for 10 - 40 mile journeys at a time where I am "enjoying" myself does 17mpg average sound about right? When it was my daily driver i was seeing more like 22 - 23?

What do other people generally see from theirs?

i never see above 20 mpg on mine but i go for smiles per miles rather than miles per gallon

If I'm honest, I get about 16mpg from my car with my regular driving style and on the sort of semi-urban driving I do most of. That's 125k on the clock and the MTM chipset.

However, when I get to go on a "bit of a run" with some long-distance M-way cruising and reset the trip computer, those sorts of journies will see an average of about 24mpg.

My current economy is reading 22.8, which has increased from 20.9.

The reason for this is that with my better half now driving the car, fuel economy has dramatically improved...

For fun driving it sounds about right, especially as you only drive it at weekends so your more likely to drive it harder.

33? That's awesome. What speed were you driving?! Best I ever managed was 29 on a return trip to Norwich in winter where I drove no faster than 55 the whole way there and back all on M-way.

60-70 all the way back, if i drive sensibly it does really really well, it just doesnt happen that often tho

Put it this way Dan, when i went down to Yeovil to get my car chipped i averaged 28mpg having driven sensibly all the way there, i got 32mpg coming back on the new chip with same driving style

urban driving kills mpg, my s4 does 20 round town but on a run gets up to 30 easily, but then i do like to use the performance

Yep, I frequently get down to 16mpg if I am pressing on - have dipped into the 15 range occasionally too. Refueling at 185 miles or something daft like that. But on a long journey, and if I tiptoe, I can get into mid-high 20 range as well, sometimes well over 300 miles before refueling.

Problem is, I hate tiptoeing...!!

Filled car with Esso superunleaded 2 weeks ago (£61), set off from Durham and drove to North Wales (via the M6) and back again on a tankfull. Set the autocheck speed check thing for 85mph and only went over it once, scaring the hell out of the other half with the "all hell is breaking loose" beep it gives off if you go over
