Is this supposed to connect to something

    Hi,

I was wondering if this pipe coming from the top of the waste gate is supposed to be connected to anything. What is it for?

I'm not sure if it's related but when I take my foot quickly off the throttle sometimes the power doesn't come off smoothly and there is a bit of a jerk. It's not that big an effect and seems to happen between about 2-3k revs.

    The car is a 93 S2 aby.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,

    Robin

lol, no don't worry. We all asked this question when we bought the car. This is just to test the diaphram inside.

How do you test the diaphram?

that port on top pf the wastegate is used for boost controlers. My understanding is that Audi used same wastegate on their rally cars and that is how ther controller boost. This port is used when aftermarket boost controller is installed, and is simple way to raise boost pressure without changing the spring inside the wastegate. I can explain how this is done if anybody interested.

Actually no. Audi used the same WG in the 10v engines and it had different way of controlling the WG. WGFV connects to the upper chamber in 10v's.

LOL. Not this old question! I get this nearly every time someone looks under my bonnet. "Look out mate, a pipe's come off!"

Thanks for the replies. Anyone got any idea on the power not coming off smoothly?

Yes, could be your lambda sensor? If you hold the car at a constant throttle - drive at, say 3000rpm, do you get the occassional sensation of the car surging and then slowing?

Do you have access to VAGCOM - that's the Audi diagnostic softare? If so, it's worth plugging it in to the ECU and seeing if any fault codes come up. I've been suffering from strange hesitant running problems of late, did a VAGCOM and lambda sensor came up straight away...
