    Can someone test coilpacks?

    Hi Guys.....

is there someone not a million miles from me thats able to test our coilpacks?

I seem to have a bit of a misfire once the boost climbs up, feels like just one cylinder, but obviously dnt know which one, i guess its a coilpack playing up?

Car has new plugs and its making full boost.

If someone has the equipment to test i can take my coilpacks off the car as i can make do without for a few days etc and send them or meet up to test.

    Thanks
    Ant

To identify which cylinder has the missfire (if it missfires on idle) pull off each injector connector in turn, see which one makes little or no difference.

it allways plays up at full boost and is very hard to test them.

I have a meter that can measure the output conductance - it might show one being faulty. I also have 3 spare second hand colipacks. I will be down your way a week tomorrow so you could come and meet up if you want.

I think greg just used a normal Multimeter to measure them, Send him a PM as i know he measured his when they were playing up!

Coild someone show how to connect up a multimeter to test coil packs as i had* a miss fire on full throttle, kept on coming and going. The plugs are ok, so i think a coil pack might be on the way out (* Havnt had the car for 4 weeks now )

The multimeter needs to have a conductance measurement(not all do) - in Siemens - to be able to measure the output winding of each coil.

I have a misfire when under load .will testing show which one is faulty if it is a coil pack

Thanks Doug, might be good if your about, can show you my wheels and the PC install (altho its poorly thrown in at the moment)

It only misfires when at WOT, so would need to trial and error swap one as its fine at idle and at part throttle its absolutely fine.

When are you down Doug and where abouts?

Ant, the sure fire way to test is to get a scope on the coils and you can see from the patterns, with engine even at idle which one is acting up.

Tom, what kind of scope and how are they tested?

Friend of mine (a garage) has all sorts of equipment so might have whats needed.

Its really annoyin me now cos i cant give it stick everywhere now!!! lol

An oscilliscope. A good garage is bound to have one. Get onto the coil side of the POS's and you should get a primary spark pattern. You can see the bad ones as the firing time is very short.
