    Boost gauge ideas

OK...stick with me/ bare with me on this.....

I want a boost gauge (OK Simon...sounds normal so far)

I don't want the car to look altered and so don't want to put a mechanical gauge in the usual places - air vents etc (OK, a bit pedantic, but still with you)

I would LOVE the S6 boost gauge in the rev counter, but not sure if it is possible to fit to the S2 (OK, we'll ask around for you, but don't hold your breath)

So I am thinking digital, as these are much smaller and therefore easier to disguise. I had thought about putting it in the front ash tray for example...like this one digital gauge

Then I read some articles from Audiworld (like this one) where folks had made digital boost gauges and mounted them in various places. So I started to ponder where in an S2 I could fit one, and it struck me (de de derrrr ).....'Why not convert the digital temperature display to be a boost gauge'

Then I got really creative and thought (de der deerrrrrrrrrrrr ) 'why not add a secret switch, to toggle between temp and boost .. well...genius or what

Now comes the bit that I have not yet resolved..... how the hell do you convert the temp display to accept boost readings, via a function toggle switch

    Any helpful ideas gratefully accepted
Raucous laughter I am used to so don't bother

    Si

The main trouble really with a digital boost gauge is that its hard to see what your boost is doing whilst driving where as a needle is easier to see.

Sounds like a nice idea tho if its possible

That sounds great. I too have thought about a special way to install a boost gauge other than the vents or a silly pod. And the place you came up with is purfect... but I want a needle type.

Hi folks! the idea is really good, guys here in StPetersburg has made it with S4, check this out, it is in Russian but you will see the pics, it is a boost gauge and exhaust temp in left & right collectors http://www.audia4.spb.ru/press/05053...rib/index.html the guys ask for $60 and 2 hrs for the mods, I do not know them personally, but I guess if it is possible with A4/S4/A6, it might work with ours too

sorry for my English and good luck with the izzue

            Hi Olle,

Could I ask you a favour Could you please ask these chaps about using the S2 temp display or the S2 autocheck display? (My russian is not good )....If you can...Thanks !!!

I guess the advantage with the autocheck display is that there is already some switching circuitry there - to allow you to toggle between the various functions. I had assumed that I would use the spare dash button (beside drivers heated seat control) as a toggle if using the temp display module, but with the autocheck, maybe we could use the dash dimmer/autocheck button.

I can send them a new temp module if they need, but do not have a spare complete dash. Does anyone else on here have one that we could send if by some stroke of madness this becomes a possibility?

Or am I still in cloud cucko land

            Cheers and

            Si

P.S. We deal with Russian companies (in fact I have 3 Russian visitors in my building today and tomorrow), so if anything needs moving between the countries, I can arrange it

              Hi Si!

Sure, in fact I have already did for myself, but email msg has returned for unknown reason, try to contact the guys by the other means of communication. Will check the options available and share with you as well if they can do this with a piece of a car. Why not?

              Will keep you posted,
              Oleg.

Here's an idea for you - put an analogue boost gauge in the place where the current voltmeter gauge sits. The volts are pretty uninteresting, that would mean you could replace it with the more interesting boost gauge and retain the car's beautiful appearance inside?

Or, put the boost gauge where the current water temperature gauge is in the main instrument cluster, and move the water temperature gauge to replace the voltmeter?

I am back with good news re the issue. The "main" guy is out and be back in a day or two, but generally speaking "it is possible" and they seem to have some mmm ... "protocol"... for the purpose. They have already warned that "it will not be so beautifull decisions" as with A4/A6 due to different dashboards. Theoretically they can make it "from a distance", but this requires on car "tuning" by a programmer PC to make the right data refresh. Will have a more detailed info later on when the main chap is back and share with you asa have it.

dan_b's idea sound more realistic I guess. Besides, analogue data is easier to read on the way vs digital.

                  be back soon,
                  Oleg.
