Boost Whistle

Hi Guys

Under Heavy acceleration I get a loud whistle/whine (difficult to explain the noise) With the windows up you can barely hear it. Windows down it is quite loud. Noise is less apparent if I let the boost build slowly but if I boot it noise begins at about 3500 rpm

The car pulls cleanly and holds boost (0.7 bar on boost gauge - think a 3b should be 0.8 bar although boost guage is autoguage and not too accurate)

I have visually inspected all turbo hoses (seem ok) and recently done the mark h intercooelr mod. I have also bought a new d/valve & WGFV but not had time to fit these yet.

Should I be looking for a boost leak or is this sounding like my turbo is on its way out? Or something else?

Ideas gratefully recieved.

Also has anyone got a pressure test kit they would lend me so I can rule out/or find a boost leak.

Have you got a cone filter fitted or the standard airbox?

I can hear mine spooling up with the cone filter but couldnt really when i had the airbox

Could be the signs of the turbo wearing out or perhaps a boost leak.

Would be worth doing a pressure test to see how that goes.
Im sure ive read before that whistling turbo's are usually signs of wear and tear and could be on its way out

I hope its not the turbo. My piggybank was long ago emptied and I have other things on the car to sort out also.

Ill just have to drive around all summer with loud music playing so I cant hear it.

People must wonder whats going on as I blast past them whistleing. Would love to get it sorted mind.

Stereo thing works in the short term but worried that one day it will go: wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee....................bang - big bill.

Yeah but only a very small one. Dunno if it would be suitable. I could probably use the one at my local garage just round the corner, they are pretty friendly and as i understand it, it shouldnt take too long.

The whistle sound could be coming from wgfv been pushed to far into pipe, I had this noise when I fitted new samcos.
