    Dreaded Boost Protection Cut-out

95 ABY avant (Homefry & Samcos) has been mis-behaving over the last 2 weeks

    Bear with me please:-

    1. Had Milteck cat back fitted 2 weeks ago. Car seem to improved noticably.
two days later I had a journey (115miles) to town and after 60 miles had the first overboost cut-out since replacing the faulty 'O' ring from Intercooler 8 months ago. (No I didn't do the reducer pipe conversion )

Since I was in town, I decided to go to local stealer to get fault codes dumped out. 2 codes registered a) Sporadic bad earth to x blah blah on throttle idle swith potentiameter. b) Overboost.

The stealer took out the Air Box to check for any burst pipes etc and couldn't find any (bearing in mind new Samcos 8 months ago). He claimed the faulty idle switch could have caused the overboost protection but his foreman was less convinced. We ordered a new switch and he cleared the fault codes and off I went. The car did actually seem to be going exceptionally well and despite trying I could no longer induce the overboost to happen again. The next day I went back to have the switch fitted and carried on thinking problem solved but the performance seem to gradually return to more "normal" levels.

During the last couple of days the performance has been eratic and definately not as good as it has been. But last night, I was pulling away with about quarter throttle and at a very low 2500rpm the boost cut-out happened again. After turning off ignition and restarting it hasn't done again yet but it's very frustrating.

    Any ideas anyone please

Can the 'O' ring from the Intercooler be failing again?

The MAF was replaced 2 years-40k ago, does it need cleaned? How /what do I clean it with?

Thanks in advance - hope some of you can help.

      Thanks

What do I clean it with? I've been told that certain products can actually knacker it?

e.g. Cleaning products used to clean K&N Air Filters

Use Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA). Get about 1 litre of it from your local chemist, shouldn't cost more than a few quid. Take the MAF out and place it in the bath of IPA and leave it to soak overnight. Don't attempt to try and physically touch the wires, they're very fragile.
Leave the IPA in a well-ventilated area as that stuff is very volatile (you'll smell the vapours straight away) and you wouldn't want to blow up your kitchen

If you haven't already done it, get rid of that o-ring in the intercooler and fit a 70-60mm reducer pipe, could well have gone again, especially now that your car has been homefried.
