    Engine checks

Hi all just brought myself a new toy and thought I'd join this, never driven a car like the S2 so just wondered how i know if its working proper?

Has a little less power below 2,000 which is apparantly due to a faulty air con sender which is not getting power and thanks to another post will get that sorted, just wondered what other checks i can do?

Been thinking of a rolling road just to check its working as it should.

    But boy is it fun..

    suggestions?

    thanks in advance

Are you referring to the power not being present below 2000 rpm ? If so you wont see any major power until 2.5 3k revs until the Turbo has spooled to produce full boost. This is normal behaviour for a turbo car.

Yeah feels very different driving a turbo car.. used to driving an old 8 valve PUG, but this car requires some special attention.

No really love it but i mean its not running properly below 2,000 and have checked this air con sender thing and its not getting any power form the battery.

any thoughts on what checks i can run to check its ok?

feels fine driving it but the turbo starts to spin just after 2,000 it starts to go with a hell of a kick!

But hey always wanted this car so won't start complaining.

I dnt understand what your trying to say the problem is?
What has the air con sender thing getting power and the below 2000rpm thing got to do with each other?

I think these are two different issues.
The "not much response below 2000rpm then Whoosh" is your classic turbo lag. You'll soon change your driving style to accommodate this

If your aircon isn't working, your aircon isn't working : if the compressor isn't being driven, you're actually not going to suffer any aircon power-sapping effects. The aircon only takes power from the engine when the compressor is turning and you can hear and feel when it engages and disengages itself.

Where do you live? There are quite a few decent aircon servicing companies around the UK these days.

Sorry chaps will try to be clearer, had a word with a mechanic mate of mine, who is also a massive audi fan and wants first refusal on my S2!

My S2 doesn't seem to tick over ok below 2,000 and if i'm not careful when i pull up to lights it may stall.

According to my friend he thinks its this air control valve that may be the issue,

I do apologise only has my car 2 weeks still got a lot to learn...

            Any manuals/reading people recommend?

Thats whats called Turbo Lag, thats how the car is meant to perform, nothing to worry about.

With the air conditioning turned on the car will automatically idle a bit higher and even boost the revs if it is about to stall. From reading your posts it sounds like you are saying that you have the aircon on permenantly so that the car is actually driveable and won't stall at junctions etc.

The first thing to check would be the idle stabilisation valve, which is on the top of the engine neat the throttle cable and throttle body. If you do a search on here there is a good thread somewhere with a picture of it. You will need to take this out and clean it.

Try that and see how you get on.

                cheers,

                Steve.

Yeah thats the thing i was talking about..

ran a few checks is getting a ground but no voltage, could cleaning up the conenctions etc help out?

No don't leave air con all the time would only average about 16mpg if i did that!!

Have a circuit diagram etc just wondered if this was faulty would it could cause problems with the air con off? (i.e the stalling etc)

also any other checks i can do? just for general car health..

                  cheers
