Question on converting Porsche mirror too RS2...

I know that the the 2 mirrors are similar save the base mounts. I've heard that Audi has the mount itself in it's parts database, true or false? If true can the base be bought seperately? The base is basically the part that will facilitate the mounting of said Porsche 993 mirrors?

AFAIK its not possible to buy the base separately. BTDT. I have a moulding for porsche mirrors. And i was thinking of ordering base mounts for it. But couldn't succeed.

Jeffer is right...you cannot buy the base seperately.
964/993 aero mirrors can be fitted to a coupe door, though, if you aren't afraid to use a grinder and a little bit of patience.

Aren't the 993 mirrors at a odd angle when mounted directly to a coupe door?
Do you have to change the angle of the base or just modify the door to accept the mount?

Has anyone with fabrication skills pioneered a mount that will fit the coupe without any cutting, grindings to adapt 993/rs2 aeros? Seems quite possible, hate the idea of hacking at my baby but the outcome is soo enticing

What we really need is a housing that uses "Aero" mirror units but fits on a standard S2 mount. That would be a big seller!

Desmo999 on this forum has 993 mirrors on his coupe and they look great. They seem to fit perfectly. We are going to try it here with a coupe any day now...

Nononsense, so you are going to mount the 993 mirrors with the stock 993 bases?
In other words you are going to modify your door?
I would love to see pictures of the process and the finished product.

I have the moulds for that. The moulds are for the mirror only, not the base. Then there is another problem, the electrics in the mirror/the mirror glas mounting. Then I'd rather have original porsche mirrors on a really hi-powered car. Dont want them to fall of on a 4wd launch

But is the mounting for the electrics a problem? Can't you just incorporate that in the mirror mould?

I'll make some pictures of the moulds, Then we can think out loud for a solution to that.

Alright lads here's something that has poped up....

and is puzzling me. Take a look at this site....

See the parts listing that this guy has posted? He has something on it called "Adapter"
PN# 8A0 858 551. Is this the mount needed to use on the Porsche mirror? If so why is he saying it's available? I've been trying to get an answer for this gaffer but still no reply.
                        What do you lads think?

Marc, there is a p/n on that adapter, however you cannot get that separately...you'd have to purchase the whole kit. Audi does this with many parts.

I am going to give it a shot, but I've got a sedan. The coupe doors are a touch different, but I don't think it is significant enough to change anything. I'll do a write up.
Like I said, though, Desmo999 has 993 mirrors/993 bases on his CQ...he has shown me in person how to do the modification.
