Repairing stone chips

I've decided to make an effort to repair the stone chips on my car. I have four questions.

Where is the data sticker on an Avant in order to find the paint code?
Is there only one silver code it could be?
What should I use to thin the paint in the touch up bottle from the dealer?
What should I use to finish it off (some kind of clear top coat)?

Paint code is on a sticker in the boot, i think its in the wheel well. You can buy the clear lacquer from the dealer, i got mine as a pack, ie the paint and lacquer in 2 cans.

Good luck Alistair - this is harder than it looks - especially with metallic paints.

Suggest you get a quote from some of the specialists like 'chips away' who have some really skilled guys based around the country just for touch up jobs like this.

I've personally never used such a company - but I have seen their work back in MK once and it was very impressive. The price was reasonable too.

Not sure about stone chips but i painted my handles up last weekend to match the car as the ones from Jeff were silver and the colour match on the car from the can was perfect and you couldnt tell they were painted by me and not the factory.

Its all a matter of how long you take to do it, a good paint job is the result of a good prep!
